yoralph Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 So, I got Westin New Port in Jersey City between 09/24 - 09/26. But, I need to add one more night between 09/23- 09/24. How do I get the same Westin hotel with HOTWIRE or PRICELINE?
thereuare Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 As noted in your previous thread where you won for the first two nites, i'm doubtful at the moment you'll be success landing the Westin for a reasonable price thru PRICELINE or HOTWIRE.With PRICELINE there is no way to target a specific property, and when searching HOTWIRE for your remaining nite the 4* appearing in this zone isn't the Westin (i think it's the W Hoboken) and is offered for $249/nite.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. yoralph Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 Then, how about getting Sheraton Weehawken? Could you give me any strategy?
thereuare Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 With PRICELINE you can't bid on a specific hotel... we can offer a suggestion to bid on a 3.5* property, but thereis no wayt to specifically target the Sheraton Suites in Weehawken. If you're interested in this property do a HOTWIRE search for your nite above and a 3.5* appears with: Suite, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business. This matches previous reports for the Sheraton Suites so that would be our best guess for this one. However, it's currently priced at $159/nite (it was $133 the other nite when i searched, iirc)Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. yoralph Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 Still searching for good deal. My parents are old, so staying in the same hotel will be the best option. But, the minimum cost I could get except Priceline bidding was Westin's best guarantee matched to Priceline hotel liste price ($319/night) with additional 10% discount. It is about $300 which is too expensive. If I stay in other hotels near Westin for the first night, which strategy should I try with Priceline/Hotwire? The only concern is how I check out and check in on 09/24. This is just a small issue. I might increase maximum budget for this stay up to $160, since I saved some from previous bidding on Westin.
thereuare Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 If I stay in other hotels near Westin for the first night, which strategy should I try with Priceline/Hotwire?With PRICELINE you're not going to be able to target a hotel near the Westin as your hotel can be anywhere within the shaded boundary of the zone... with HOTWIRE you'll be able to take a guess as to the property offered before your purchase, but currently on HOTWIRE is the 4* hotel for $250, the 3.5* referenced above (likely Sheraton Suites), and a 2.5* hotel which i think is on Route 1&9 which is not near the PATH station, nor a nice area, nor where you really want to be.Your thoughts? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. yoralph Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 I decided to use PRICELINE even though I was not sure about shaded boundary of the zone. Finally, I got W Hoboken for $195/night for staying between 09/23 and 09/24. I have not seen many reviews on this hotel, so I am not sure about parking, transportation to/from NYC. If any one knows this hotel, let me know.
thereuare Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Although i've never stayed here, i'm very familiar with the surrounding area and could probably tell you more than you care to know :)There aren't too many reviews of this property as it's only been open ~6months or so. It's virtually right on the Hudson River and all rooms have a view of the city (either uptown or downtown)Street parking is for "residents only"... all others are a 4 hour limit (and non-residents can only part on one side of the street). Green sign with white letters = NO PARKING for non-residents .... White sign with green letters = four hour limit. As well, this is not enforced per space, but for parking wtihin the city limits, so even if you park from 8am-noon, move your car to a new space from noon-4pm, repeat, repeat, you can still get a 'boot' on your car (which immobilizes it). The 4hr limit is not enforced after 9pm so you can park overnite on the street and the garage across the street from the hotel probably has a "enter before 8am exit by 6pm special" for ~$14-20. If arrive into town ~5pm it's possible to park on the streeet (on the correct side) overnite since not enforced after 9pm (of course this is at your own risk) and then move your car into a 'garage special' in the morning. There is also a public garage on 2nd Street between Hudson and River that charges by the hour (i'll check, but probably caps out at ~$24/day... less for fraction of a day under 12 hours)Best transportation to the city is the Hoboken PATH train, 4 blocks to the South... walk along the river for a beutiful view of the NYC Skyline. If you need to be near Port Authority a bus will take you into the city by walking 2 blocks west (to Washington St, the "main street" of Hoboken with lots of bars, restaurants, and more bars) and then 1 block North or South (bus going into the city picks up on odd numbered streets... so 1st and Washington or 3rd and Washington)Anything else you need to know just ask.Oh yeah, thanks for sharing your win with the board. :) Do you recall the amount of your previously rejected bid? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. yoralph Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 I started the bidding with $190 in Hoboken-Jersey city, then I got counter offer $22 increase from Priceline. I just closed the browser, and add another zone without changing hotel grade (4*). Then I finally got $195 deal. Fo getting two queen/double bed, I called the W hotel to arrange it. Unfortunately, they said I need to pay $30 per night for this upgrade, because it is reserved for one king bed at default.Thank you for valuable parking info!! I am leaving from Ohio to New Jersey early morning on 09/23, so I'll arrvie around evening. As you mentioned, I'd better use street parking, and move my car into a garage special in the morning. Or I'd better park my car near Westin if I could check in early in the morning.I plan to have Grayline tour on 09/24 with my family, so I will go to Port Authority by bus. I found it the bus number is 128. Is this right?
thereuare Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 No, it's Bus 126.If you park by the Westin (not any free parking around there weekdays) you could take the light rail or PATH train to Hoboken, but probably best to park locally, imo, given that i don't think you'll find free parking by the Westin.
