vanilla_skyy Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 So, I'm heading to Vegas this coming Monday and have yet to book a hotel.Priceline recently added The Signature, which I'd like to shoot for, to its list of options at a price of $145/night, Monday-Wednesday. I wouldn't have a problem with Luxor or NYNY either, both of which are priced under $130.My question is this: If I were to lead out with a bid of $70-73, would I have to be worried about hitting the Westin considering my bid would be more than 50% under the Priceline listing of $165?If I were to end up overpaying, albeit slightly, for either Luxor or NYNY I'd be perfectly content. Thanks!
vanilla_skyy Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 So, do I need to worry about hitting the Westin when my bid is 50% less than Priceline's listed quote?
AaronJB Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 The issue is that trying to overbid for a different hotel is not recommended - you could very well end up paying more than you needed to for the hotel you were trying to avoid (in this case, the Westin.) If there is a hotel that you do not want in a particular zone, there is no way/"work around" to avoid it.Please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchase.
vanilla_skyy Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 So I could still conceivably get booked into the Westin on a bid of $70 when PRICELINE's listed price is $165?
AaronJB Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 If you bid for a 4* in the South Strip in general, the Westin could be one of the possibilities.

vanilla_skyy Posted September 14, 2009 Author Report Posted September 14, 2009 Yes... it would be a concern if you were to bid this zone.Well, what I thought would happen....happened.After spending the last few days watching prices fluxuate, I started throwing out bids last night for the dates of Sept 14-16. I first attempted to grab the Hard Rock, starting at $70 and working my way up. Once I was turned down on a $108 bid (when Hard Rock was listed at $159) for a 4* Near East Strip, I turned my attention towards the South Strip.Lo and behold, my first bid that included the 4* South Strip was accepted for $64. For the Westin Casuerina, which was $105 under the rack rate. Not what I was hoping for in the least, but I'll accept it. I guess this goes to show that even on such short notice as this, they still prefer to literally give away the hotels situated further from the strip in hopes that people will pay full price for hotels such as Luxor, NYNY, MGM or Signature.Hotel: Westin CasuerinaDate: Sept 14-16Rate: $64
