kacher Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Hi!Could you help me with my situation. Staying in NY for 2 days before leaving for the Caribbean.Short visit - don't mind 2.5 star hotel this time Duration: Sept 13- 15 (13,14th night)Star: 3.5* or better if in NJ/ Long Island/ JFK area; 3* if Manhattan (2* only if absolutely needed)Budget: <100$ per nightAirport: JFKTransport: Public(no rental car this visit)Want to use visit for visiting Times Square, Empire St, Staten IslandIs it preferable to stay in JFK area/ Long Island/ Newark/ Jersey city for my price range (which are easily availbale for abt 60$) (or) is it even possible closer in downtown (which would make it so much easier)Prefer: MTE, MTW, CPS and Empire StateHow do I bid in priceline. I am familiar with your bidding process. Will use your links now and later to book. Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!I'm doubtful your budget will be enough to stay in Manhattan for these dates (although HOTWIRE has a 2* hotel in the Central Park zone, but note it has a 'fair' TA rating of 3.0/5.0 and this zone can go pretty far north, not the ideal location for most users) and i don't really consider the EWR/JFK zones to be convenient... EWR requires multiple forms of mass transit to get to the Manhattan and JFK is just too far out (as well as costly for commuting purposes each day)My advice would be to look towards a 4* hotel in Jersey City via PRICELINE were i think you can be succussful for a sub-$100 bid and be close to a PATH train which will take you into the city in ~15 minutes.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. kacher Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 Thank you!Your advice is practical.I bid for 4* in jersey city 75$-...-... 95$ (in increments). got rejected. Will try again today.. I also read previous blogs. Are the 3.5* and 3* in the jersey city area too far out from PATH?Also, I want to use the hotel just for catching a night cap.. Are the 2*, 2.5* even semi-decent as far as location/ liveability(I tried bidding 45$ for the 2*) Thanks much..
thereuare Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 There are parts of the zone which are not convenient to the PATH train. The 3.5* Sheraton Suites in Weehawken is located in this zone and while this has easy transport to NYC via bus (and limited ferry service midweek) it's almost inaccessible at the wee hours of the morning, if you intend to stay out late. Since the star rating you select is the minimum you are willing to accept, bidding anything below 4* would subject you to this property, and as we don't see too much bidding at 2.5* and under in this zone, i would suspect that many of the lower tier properties would be even less convenient (although the Candelwood Suites is 2* rated and near th PATH... but you can't bid on this specific hotel)Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. kacher Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 Thanks for everything.. I decided not to take a hotel there at all..
AaronJB Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Thank you for the follow-up; did you decide to go to a different location or not take this trip? Thanks.
