Priceline Hotel: Newbie Needs Help -- NYC Oct 1-6 -- Prefer 4*

Greetings! So... my wife and I booked our cheap SFO to NY flight to go visit our son at NYU and now we're trying to find a deal on a nice hotel in NYC. Our son has recommended limiting our search to Chelsea, Madison, Mid-town West, and the Times Square areas. Prior to finding this forum, I checked all of them and bid $195 with no takers. I'd love help on a realistic, but fair price and a bid strategy.

You're learning NYU tuition isn't the only thing expensive in NYC :)

I think you'll likely be success in one of the above zones for just a bit more, likely at $225 or less... is this still within your budget?

Also, if you keep your bids at the 4* or higher level I'd also recommend the MTE zone as it would put you close to the 6 train which would take you pretty close to NYU (depending upon where exactly your son is staying)... but check with your son to see if he thinks this would be an acceptable location for you or not.

Lastly, note that of the zones you've already bid, only MTW and TS have 4* hotels, so those are really the only two zones that you bid on in the previous bid. The other zones are what we refer to as re-bid zones and should be 'held onto' for addtional bidding opportunities so that you can slowly increase your bid in the same bidding cycle and bypass the 24 hour lock-out period.
