dreababy Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 I have been following for awhile trying to get the hang of this. We are looking for Oct 14-17 in Chicago, magnificent mile or north michigan area. It is for our 30th anniversary--i'd love to have a nice place to stay, but I know we'll be enjoying the city most of the time. (I've never been.) I like the style of hotel 71 actually. So--I think I have identified a few on Hotwire for those days :3.5*Mag MileBoutiqueFitnessBusinessInternetHotel 71??--$146/nt4*NMArestaurantBusiness centerInternetFitnesslooks like it could be several--Allerton? Drake?Knikerbocker? Westin? $122 /nightthen there's:3.5*NMAsmokefreefitnessrestaurantbusinessinternetgolftennis$144/ntwould that be Ambassador East?Mixed in there is one for$139/nt that looks like it might be the Sheraton--and I'd rather not be there. So --first of all, am i on target for identifying some of these?Second --i'd be thrilled to get something for less than $100/night. If I don't, I'll probably use hotwire (your site) and go with Hotel 71--if that's likely it.So where do you recommend that I start? 4 star in section 5 ?or section 6? And what amount? I have read the instructions (alot!) but i am afraid of messing up.Thanks--
thereuare Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!I'm assuming zone5 and zone6 are the Loop and NMA zones? If so, at the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Loop...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* NMA...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Loop and NMA...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. dreababy Posted September 10, 2009 Author Report Posted September 10, 2009 ok. I started. bid $75-Loop-rejected.added NMA 85--rejected. I know. i know. I goofed. Should've added the other zones first, but I got confused. I know I am supposed to check the zones on Priceline's page to see if there are no 4 star hotels---I looked on their map and it appears midway and Skokie Niles only go up to 3.5 and 3. So i am safe to add them, right? I don't see where I can "prove" on their site any other zones.
dreababy Posted September 10, 2009 Author Report Posted September 10, 2009 think i figured it out. I can also use Ohare south, lincoln and Hyde park safely(?) in a bid for a 4*, right? but on another note, there are several on hotwire today that are not much over $100. Do i need to start a different post to inquire about the possible identity of those?
AaronJB Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Please use this thread for all posts regarding this trip.Additionally, while you can use areas that do not have a 4* to rebid for 4*, I'd be very careful when re-bidding, as there are a few areas that I would definitely not recommend for a tourist (Hyde Park, Greater Chicago.)If this is for a special occasion, I'd consider HOTWIRE, given that one can figure out which hotels may be showing and if there's something nice, it may be worth a bit more than using PRICELINE.Please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchase.
dreababy Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 I think I do want to switch to Hotwire. So:3.5*Mag MileBoutiqueFitnessBusinessInternet$143/nt4*NMArestaurantBusiness centerInternetFitness$139/nt3.5*NMAsmokefreefitnessrestaurantbusinessinternetgolftennis$163/nt4* MMfitnesspoolrestaurantbusinessinternettennisspa$109/nt(that's the one i really think i might try)Any thoughts on what these might be? And if one is Hotel71, what do you think of that hotel?Thanks--
