erict206 Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 I need a place for Sep 12-16 in NYC. My wife and I plan to walk around, see a show or two, museums... Convenient to Central Park would be good since my wife wants to go running there a couple times. I have not used this site or PRICELINE / HOTWIRE previously. Anything clean and comfortable under $250 is looking pretty good at this point.Checked with a couple vacation apartment brokers and found ONE place for about $250/night. It looks okay but for that amount I'd prefer a hotel with daily cleaning service.Suggestions?~ E
thereuare Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! With a maximum bid of $250, I think you have a shot at a 3.5* in the midtown area (MTE, MTW, CPS, ESB, TS, MSG, and/or Chelsea) and a 'pretty good' chance at a 3*. While most of these zones are quite convenient for for the average visitor (although ESB, MSG, and Chelsea wouldn't exactly be 'close' to Central Park although easily accessible by subway), the one caveat to note is that in the MTE zone at the 3.5* level resides the Millenium UN, which while a very nice hotel with some very good ratings, it is a bit east and about a 15 minute walk to the subway, not sure if this is something which would be acceptable to your or not. Also, should you want to proceed with the above, are you willing to spend more for a 3.5* vs. a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay?Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. erict206 Posted September 9, 2009 Author Report Posted September 9, 2009 Thanks, thereuare. With three days left before the trip I didn't want to leave this hanging any longer. I roughly followed the strategy you prescribed for someone else with a similar request. Here's how I bid (all are for 3*):$150: CPS, MTW, TS$175: CPS, MTW, TS, MSG$200: CPS, MTW, TS, MSG, Chelsea$225: CPS, MTW, MSG, MTE, TSAfter this one, I got a message saying I could submit a bid for $25 more one time only without changing the area. It was clear the bid would get accepted. So the final bid was: 3*, $250: CPS, MTW, MSG, MTE, TSI ended up with the Ramada Plaza New Yorker Hotel for $250/night. My wife will have to take the bus or subway (around the corner) to run in Central Park. But for everything else the the location seems very central and convenient. The hotel quality looks fine and the ammenities are above average with wi-fi and use of the gym included in the price. Also it's 100% non-smoking, which we appreciate. They do allow pets so we'll see if we can get on a wing that's for people only.Great site and thanks again for the help--I used the PRICELINE link you provided.
