cjm10 Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 Hello We are trying to secure some accomadation in New york city for 5 nights from the 20th of sept 09. So far we have tried for 4 star in Manhatten for 115 dollars to no avail. Preferably we would like a 3 star or above in a reasonable area of Manhatten for no more than 110 dollars + tax, we dont not want to stay in a hostel. Would anyone be able at assist us with any tips or stratergies ? Would spliiting our required nights of stay make any difference in securing a reservation ?
AaronJB Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)Unfortunately, $110 is not going to be realistic for a 4* in the Fall in NYC (and may possibly not be enough for a 3*), which is quite expensive. What PRICELINE zones in NYC would you be interested in staying in and what exact bids (zones/star rating) have you made so far? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
cjm10 Posted September 5, 2009 Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 I have tried all zones except brooklyn & LIC.I have bid on only 4* so far up to 118 dollars. Would be willing to go down to 2* plus but not wanting to go any lower. Any help would be much appreciated .

cjm10 Posted September 5, 2009 Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 Thank you for the stratergy will give it a go and will let you know how i get on .
powerpuffy99 Posted September 5, 2009 Report Posted September 5, 2009 I have been trying for a month and went up to $160 for a 3* without luck :)My dates were 9/20-9/23
cjm10 Posted September 5, 2009 Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 I must be doing something dumb , as i keep getting told that i can't do this as it's a duplicate request and i have to change dates or star level. Can anyone help.
AaronJB Posted September 5, 2009 Report Posted September 5, 2009 If you've made that same bid within the past 24 hours, then it will tell you you've made a duplicate bid.
cjm10 Posted September 5, 2009 Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 So the stratergy above has to be done over a few days then ? This is all i was wondering.
thereuare Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 You should be able to follow the complete strategy all in the same day/bidding cycle. At what point do you get the duplicate bid strategy? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. cjm10 Posted September 8, 2009 Author Report Posted September 8, 2009 Straight away. Must be doing something wrong. going to give it another go know.
cjm10 Posted September 8, 2009 Author Report Posted September 8, 2009 Tried this stratergy again . Getting the message duplicate request as soon as i increase my bid on the MTE,MTW,TS,UES,UWS zones . Worked for an increase of $85 from $80 on CPS,Chelsea,DT,ESB,MSG zones but not the other ones. Any help would be appreciated as i'm not sure why it lets me increase on 1 lot of zones and not the rest.
thereuare Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Getting the message duplicate request as soon as i increase my bid on the MTE,MTW,TS,UES,UWS zones.Note that there is no $85 bid with the 5 zone combination above:Select 3* MTE, Chelsea, DT, ESB, MSG...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, MTW, TS, UES, UWS...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINEDo you recally exactly the zones you bid each time? If so, please list them in a reply to this thread:$80 Zone, Zone, Zone, Zone, etc$80 Zone, Zone, Zone, Zone, etc$85 Zone, Zone, Zone, Zone, etc$85 Zone, Zone, Zone, Zone, etcList everything up to the point where you received the duplicate message. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. cjm10 Posted September 8, 2009 Author Report Posted September 8, 2009 I started with $80 bid $80,CPS,Chelsea,DT,ESB,MSG for 3* , Then closed the browser and reopened it through betterbidding link to PRICELINE$80,MTE,MTW,TS,UES,UWS for 3*, Then closed browser and reopened it through the link again$85,CPS,Chelsea,DT,ESB,MSG,3*, Then closed browser and reopened through the link to PRICELINE$85,MTE,MTW,TS,UES,UWS,3*, This is were it started saying can not continue as this is a duplicate request.
cjm10 Posted September 8, 2009 Author Report Posted September 8, 2009 I should also say i kept the same dates 20th sept to 25th of sept for all bids
thereuare Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Note that the combination of zones selected in my sugggested strategy above change for each bid... you have kept the zones the same for your $80 and $85 bids... do you see the difference? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Has anyone got another stratergy or should i try the same one again tomorrow ? Any help is much appreciated.
thereuare Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 I'm doubtful you'll be success for these dates at $115 or less, but to give it a try...You can try SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, but i'm not sure if that will help... based upon current rates i don't think your budget is realistic for these dates. :)What is the best deal you're able to find at an acceptable hotel for these dates thru conventional booking channels? Edward98 Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Just to echo thereuare's comments, I've been trying for a week to get a Manhattan hotel for 9/22-24. My attempts at 3* @ $200 and 4* @ $300 have all failed.Good luck,Edward
cjm10 Posted September 10, 2009 Author Report Posted September 10, 2009 Well my best price through HOTWIRE is about $159 for 4* at TS but only for 1 to 2 nights depending when i look on the website. Was thinking of doing this and keep changing hotels every night depending on what deal is on that day on HOTWIRE .This is looking my best option as mad as it is ! :)
thereuare Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Well my best price through HOTWIRE is about $159 for 4* at TS but only for 1 to 2 nights depending when i look on the website.I'm assuming that rate is good for the Sunday nite or possibly the Sun/Mon nites... it will get more difficult to find any 'deal' for the last 3 nites of your stay, imo. While not not that opposed to changing hotels, i don't think doing so every nite of a 5 nite trip is such a good idea.I think you could stay at a 4* hotel in NYC for ~$200/nite average and take the PATH train into the city, if this is of any interest. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
