Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you go back to HOTWIRE and doublecheck, i think the first amenity for the 4* Downtown hotel is a SUITE icon... not Shuttle. If so, this is a match for the Embassy Suites and that would be my best guess for this one.

I'm not currently seeing the 4* Central Park prperty offered when i search HOTWIRE for your dates, but these amenities have previously been associated with the On the Avenue hotel so that would be my best guess here.

Hello,

I tried earlier for a HOTWIRE bid using the links above, but i was unsuccessful in finding something so i have switched to priceline.

Any suggestions.

I am looking for a 4* above. I have read you bidding strategy with adding the zones that do not have 4*.

I bid in the downtown soho, mte, mtw, esb, ts zones.

I bid 175

185

195

201

220

I tried to close the browser and reopen but it seemed to recognize that i had just bid.

Any other advice out there to lock down a hotel?

Do they tend to get cheaper closer to the dates?

Thanks

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.

As you're discovering, rates are very high for these dates... how hiigh are you willing to bid before your considering lowering your star rating to 3.5*?

Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

Thanks for the response.

Yes they are quite expensive for this time.

In terms of price I am willing to go up to. About 275-300. Splitting is okay but less preferred.

I would consider lowering star status but was hoping for 4 star.

In terms of 3* anys idea for this hotel from hotwire.

3 star chelsea-msg for 249 with boutique, high speed, business, golf nearby, and tennis. It is currently being posted, and i dont see it in the pinned list.

thanks.

I don't know the 3* Chelsea property, but let's back up a moment...

What exactly is it that you want from this stay? There is a 3.5* Chelsea property with a 4.0 (good) Tripadvisor review for the same price as the 3* above, which on the surface would seem like a better deal than the 3* above given the higher star rating and positive Tripadivisor reviews. As well, your first post was looking at hotels in Central Park and Downtown-Soho, which are almost at opposite ends of the Manhattan, while this latest hotel is in midtown.

If you give us an idea of the purpose of this trip and what is important to you (location, high star rating, price, busy/quiet neighborhood, etc) we will be in a better position to help you find something that meets your needs.

Hi thanks again for the response.

I did not see that other hotel you were talking about, but yes this seems like it would be nicer. To answer your questions we are going on a short trip for fun. We will be doing stuff in various parts of manhattan. I originally would have preferred to stay downtown or soho region and would like to be near some good resteraunt areas. However we will be up in central park, at a show, museums, etc which will take us all over the place, so it does not really matter where we stay. The price issue also was a reason i started to look elsewhere. In terms of importance I would say star rating is our number one. and location is also important, but i am more flexible with that. My understanding is that around midtown/ts there can be not as much going on at night, so i would prefer to be further down town......or alternatively close to the park (so the mornings are easier for hanging out in the park or going to a museum etc.)

If you do win a hotel in the Downtown zone, it is more likely going to be in the Financial area of that zone than the Soho area of the zone, and the Downtown zone is more likely to be quiet at nite than midtown.

Do you see the 3.5* in the Chelsea zone on a current HOTWIRE search now? Your price may differ slightly, but my current price today is $262 and it shows Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet icons and a TA rating of 4.0. This is a match for the The New Yorker Hotel Ramada Plaza so that would be my best guess for this one. Would this work for you needs?

Congratulations on your success and thank you for sharing your results wtih the board.

Was this thru PRICELINE or HOTWIRE? If HOTWIRE can you please let us know the amenities shown before your purchase... you can still view these by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.

If PRICELINE let us know and we'll move this thread to the proper section of the board.
