kiramoli Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Hello! I'm going to be staying in Athens for one night on 09/27, it will be four of us so we need to get two rooms.I looked up the hotels that people got around those dates. We would like to pay around $100 per room and are hoping to get rooms in a 4* or 5* hotel. Is it reasonable? Can you recommend a bidding strategy considering that we need two rooms. Is it a different strategy than the one that is used when bidding for one room? Thanks for any help!
thereuare Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Have you made any decision in regards to the Priceline Paris leg of your stay yet? kiramoli Posted September 3, 2009 Author Report Posted September 3, 2009 The Paris trip was last year. After bidding unsuccesfully I checked one of my credit cards that accumulated points. I was able to get Holiday Inn for those points and that's exactly what I did. Holiday Inn on place de la Republic was a bit off center, but it didn't cost me anything. Sorry for not updating my results sooner, I thought since I got nowhere there was nothing to write about.
thereuare Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Nobody reading your other thread will know to look here to see that you ended up using points to book the hotels, please follow-up that thread so it has a 'conclusion' and future readers will know how the story ends, rather than be left wondering if you were ultimatley successful but didn't report the win, booked direct, cancelled the trip, etc. This helps keep the board better organized and more useful for everyone. For your Athens stay, are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. kiramoli Posted September 3, 2009 Author Report Posted September 3, 2009 For Athens stay in September I would like to pay max of $120 for the room plus taxes and fees . We would like to stay in the central location or around Acropolis. But from reading the posts I understand there is no choice of zones in Athens. So the question is what is the best deal I can get for $120? How to bid to get two rooms?
thereuare Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Your hotel can be anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the PRICELINE zone, but the question i was asking is whether you wanted to:1) bid for a 5* hotel over the course of a few days up to your maximum before trying for a 4* hotel2) try for the least expensive 4* or better hotel from the star3) try one bid for a 5* and then if rejected try for a 4* hotel at a lower amount, repeating this cycle every day until your maximum bid is reachPlease use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. kiramoli Posted September 3, 2009 Author Report Posted September 3, 2009 Since my goal is to get the best price for either 4* and 5* I think the third option will suit the best.
thereuare Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 I'd start by bidding $75 for a 5*, if that is rejected i'd lower the star rating to 4* and $55.Raise each bid by $5 every 24 hours. You'll be at your $100 maximum for a 5* in ~5 days and we'll revise at that time if you haven't yet been successful. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Any questions feel free to ask. kiramoli Posted September 9, 2009 Author Report Posted September 9, 2009 In the end I ended up getting the hotel via Hotwire (using this forum's HOTWIRE link). Got 5* Inter-Continental for $122.
