familyof6 Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Started bid for a 5* in the Houston Galleria area at $75/night which was rejected. Dropped down to a 4* and dropped my bid to $45/night and it was accepted at the Intercontinental Houston hotel. Parking is $16/night so that'll essentially bump up that nightly rate a bit but still a good deal.
AaronJB Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Congratulations on your success and welcome to the site. :)Still an excellent deal, I'd say - terrific price for this property and Houston during the holiday weekend.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start future purchases.Enjoy your stay.
familyof6 Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Posted September 1, 2009 Tried last week for a 4* hotel in downtown Austin with starting bid of $55/night. It was rejected so I added SW Austin (knowing that area doesn't have 4* hotels & so I'd still get my desired location) and bumped it up to $65/night. It was rejected. I waited a couple of days and tried the same technique again at $70/night for Downtown Austin & then added $75/night. Both were rejected. We decided we didn't want to spend more than that and didn't want to chance with a 3* hotel since there are a couple on there that we don't care for. We instead switched our destination to Houston for Labor Day weekend where we can get better deals on hotels prices. (I posted our Houston winning on a different topic but we got a 4* in the Houston Galleria area for $45/night.)
