jeevasuk Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Hi All,I am taking vacation with my family ( Wife and child 6 year ) in Newyork from Nov 7th to Nov 11th. My budget is $80-140 per night for 3-4 star hotel.I like to stay in main tourist areas. Any advice on bidding strategy? Thanks.
thereuare Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 As noted in your Los Angleles Hotel thread, PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy... after that it's at the discretion of the hotel. While it may be acceptable to take this risk in family friendly areas such Disneyworld which are used to accomodating families and have many rooms with two beds... NYC is the opposite, with space limited there is a high percentage of rooms with only one bed, many of which can't accomodate a rollaway. Unless you're willing to 'sneak' your 6 year old in and potentially need to have him/her sleep on the floor (check withi your wife first :) ) it's recommended that users not use PRICELINE for triple occupancy in New York City... HOTWIRE is still an option when searching for triple/quad occupancy.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. jeevasuk Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Posted September 1, 2009 Hi Thereuare, Thanks for replying my post. I spoke to Crown Plaza lA, they are ok with extra kid.I am not getting any hotels for my budget ( Upto $140) in NY City on hotwire website. So I am thinking of taking risk with priceline and after booking, I will call and upgrade with hotel. Please advise on how to proceed on price line. Thanks,
thereuare Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 For the average visitor MTE, MTW, TS, CPS all work fine... MSG-Convention, ESB, and Chelsea too although these are slightly away from 'center'. The one 'known' caveat is at the 3.5* level the Millenium UN in the MTE, which while a very nice hotel, is about a 15 minute walk to the subway, so that's a little far east and is too far away for some users. Please look at the PRICELINE map and let us know which zone(s) your'e willing to accept. As well, did you want to try up to your limit for a 4* and then, if rejected, reduce to a 3.5* up to your limit, then if rejected, reduce to a 3* up to your limit... or is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jeevasuk Posted September 2, 2009 Author Report Posted September 2, 2009 Thanks. I am fine with 2.5* also, But I thought If I get 4 or 3* hotels, then there is more chance of accomodating my kid. I searched upto 3* on all NY city locations in Priceline with the budget of $120/night and I could n't get any. So for safe I booked in Hotel 91 through the hotel website. It is in east broadway, near soho, financial area, Chnia town and cost $125 ( refundable) for 2 full bed room. It is 3* as per Expedia and it has balanced review. I will keep looking with more budget upto $140. if no luck then I will stay in Hotel 91.
thereuare Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 For triple occupancy in NYC i do think you're safer choosing a hotel that you know will accomodate your needs. Thanks for letting us know what you've decided for this trip... any updates or if we can be of further help please continue this thread.
