Priceline Hotel: 4* NYC (MTE) Denied

I think I'll be doing new search today beginning with MTW and possibly including Times Square. We've already booked the Omni for 9/24-26 for $120 - but this was through an employee friends and family discount. We've only ever stayed at the Omni on our several visits to NYC and we really like and are familiar with the area.

Thanks,

Edward

Since you already have 4 nites booked in Manhattan, would you consider staying outside of the city, in Jersey City (NJ)... PATH train will have you in the city in 10-20 minutes depending upon whether you want to to midtown or downtown, and i think a 4* hotel avaialble for your dates somewhere between $90-$120/nite.

Hmm. I may just have to do that. I'm actually flying in for the U2 concert at Giants Stadium which got moved from Friday to Wednesday. Any recommendations on a hotel that offers easy access to the venue?

Thanks,

According to this press release the Light Rail now offers service to the Meadowlands on nite with 'major events' (i'm assuming a Giants Stadium concert would qualify): Light Rail To Meadowlands.

Assuming this would be the case you'l be able to access the light rail from the Jersey City Waterfront area, but it's not cler to me whether you would need to tranfer in Secaucus or in Hoboken (as 2 different pages of the NJ Transit website show different route maps)

This location (Jersey City Waterfront) would also provide easy access to Manhattan for the non-concert time of your stay OR you could stay out closer to the Meadowlands, but while actually closer geographically, may not offer easy mass transit options to the venue. There are a few properties which are within walking distance (although safety can be an issue since it involves walking on highways and highway overpasses, which is done frequently on 'event days'), but you can't choose which hotel in the zone you will get and other properties can be more difficult to reach the Meadowlands, especially if relying on mass transit.

Let us know your thougths and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

Any comments on the Holiday Inn L.I. City? I'm thinking about booking this w/ a refundable backup option while I keep pinging Priceline. Reviews seem decent and it's got close subway access. My only concern w/ a N.J. hotel is that I'm flying into LGA and the cabfare might be a bit much from the airport.

Thanks for all the feedback,

Edward

I'm not a fan of Long Island City or the brooklyn/queens PRICELINE zones... they're not areas that i feel are 'nice' or 'welcoming', but if the price is right and you feel that's the best option you have then you can certainly book it while you continue to try PRICELINE.

If you did want to go to NJ from LGA you could take a taxi to a Manhattan PATH station and then take the PATH for the remainder of the trip to NJ/Jersey City (assuming your luggage is managable)
