Hi Folks,

I wanted to share my attempt at getting a great deal in Las Vegas for two nights starting Friday 09/18/2009. I have not called it quits yet, but need to let things cool down for the 24 hour rebid period. Besides, someone once told me that you find much better rates earlier in the week, so I may wait until Monday. Has anyone noticed this trend?

I also thought that maybe there were a couple of huge conventions in Las Vegas for that date, but found nothing worth mentioning. It looks like LV has reduced the room rates for the weekdays, but still has them at the inflated rates to milk the weekend warriors. Having higher rates on the weekend is not unusual, but the diversity between the two is huge ($35 vs. $125 for the same room).

If I were a betting man, I would bet that as the date gets closer the prices will come down. A quick check for rooms this weekend indicates that this might be the case. Of course, I wouldn't recommend that anyone wait until the last minute unless they have a fallback plan.

Now on to the fun stuff:

How my bidding on Priceline has gone so far.

Accessed PRICELINE via the BetterBidding link

Select 4* Strip South...

Bid $42, rejected, added re-bid zone10

Bid $45, rejected, closed browser and used the BetterBidding link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* Strip South added re-bid zone7...

Bid $48, rejected, they offered $99. Added re-bid zone10

Bid $52, rejected, closed browser and used the BetterBidding link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* Strip South added re-bid zone7...

Bid $56, rejected, they offered $99. Added re-bid zone10

Bid $58, rejected.

So much for 4* at these rates. I am changing my plan to see if I can get into Monte Carlo at a decent rate.

Notes:

Trying for something a little cheaper, but still on Strip South, which is Monte Carlo - 3

Thank you for your comments. I have updated the results of my previous LV stay. I ended up staying in a friends room at the Mandalay.

What do you think a realistic bid would be for the weekend of 09/18 - 09/20?

Do you think the prices will get lower closer to the date?

Do you see a trend of better prices depending when folks bid (early vs. later in the week)?

Thanks,

Brian

For a 4* $80-$100 seems more realistic at the moment. (although note my comments regarding the Westin)

There is no trend as far as what day of the week or what time of day to bid, it doesn't work that way.

As far as bidding early or close to arrival, see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.
