ronimous Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Hello, I'm Jason, I'm new to the site...stayed up waaaay too late reading all the good posts last night.Next weekend I'd like to take the family to Las Vegas for Labor Day Weekend.Looking at Priceline for either the 4* Mirage or Treasure Island. My budget is $50-$75 a night. Do I have a chance and are there any good strategies? Thanks in advance,Jason
AaronJB Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)PRICELINE is - much like a bet in Vegas - the "luck of the draw" - you have to be willing to accept the hotel that the service gives you, which may not be the hotel you most desire. If you got a hotel other than TI or the Mirage, would you be okay with that?Additionally, if you are a party of more than 2, then HOTWIRE would be a better choice, as at least that service would allow one to guarantee bedding for more than 2. PRICELINE only guarantees 1 bed.Let us know your thoughts and we can then make further suggestions from there. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase when you are ready to book.
ronimous Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 Thanks for the reply Aaron.I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum, my apologies.I only saw TI and The Mirage on the hotel list for 4*. Are others getting different hotels using PRICELINE using this star rating?I'd be ok with getting a room with one bed...we can always take an inflatable mattress for the kids...:) Just want something near the action, with a casino in the hotel, and a chance to try the $20 trick....Open to any and all advice....
thereuare Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 $50-$75 isn't usually enough for weekend dates in Vegas, but let us know the actaul dates of your stay and we'll take a look. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ronimous Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 HOTWIRE shows a 2.5* East of strip with a casino, pool, restaurant, and laundry. East of Strip. On the lists provided here the closest thing that matches this would be the Best Western Mardi Gras Inn, but shows it as Near Strip East. Given the price, I'd like to book this hotel if it is correct. My only hesitation is that it doesn't fit the categories listed here. I realize the lists here aren't always 100% accurate, just wanted to know if anyone else thought it was worth rolling the dice...particularly for $42 a night....What are the chances this hotel is the Best Western Mardi Gras?
thereuare Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same stay. Are you still seeing this property on your own HOTWIRE search, as i'm not seeing this offered when searching for your dates? As well, note that the Best Western is in the (near Strip East) zone, whereas you're asking for a hotel ID in the (East of Strip) zone. Unless you've confused the two zones, this couldn't be the Best Western Mardi Gras Inn.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ronimous Posted September 2, 2009 Author Report Posted September 2, 2009 Thanks for the reply....still trying to book something for this trip...New question...I'm finding that the earlier in the week I book a room, the cheaper I can get it per night. For example, if I book a room Wed. through Sat. I can get the room for $32 a night, while booking Thurs.-Sun gives me a $67 per night rate. What happens if I book Wed. through Sat. for $32/night and don't show up to check in until Thursday? Do they cancel the entire reservation if I don't check in on the first night?Still planning on using the site's HOTWIRE link when I book the room, just still angling to get the best deal. Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 New question...I'm finding that the earlier in the week I book a room, the cheaper I can get it per night. For example, if I book a room Wed. through Sat. I can get the room for $32 a night, while booking Thurs.-Sun gives me a $67 per night rate.Generally speaking Sun-Thur in Vegas is much cheaper than Fri-Sun. The first rate you quote has 2midweek days and only one weekend day, which would bring the average cost down less than the second rate you quote which only has one 'cheap' midweek day and 2 expensive weekend dates. If you don't arrive on your check-in date you need to call the hotel the day of arrival and let them know not to cancel your reservation and that you will still be arriving. You can stay you booked the nite before since you wanted to guarnatee an early check-in time (before official check-in time), had car trouble, etc. But as per above, i'm guessing it won't be feasible do to this since you'd do better with a Thur-Sat stay vs. a Wed-Sat stay and you didn't intend to check-in until Thursday. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ronimous Posted September 3, 2009 Author Report Posted September 3, 2009 Used the site's link for HOTWIRE and got the Stratosphere for 3 nights at $67 a night. Thanks all!
AaronJB Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Looks like a very good deal for Vegas, hope you are pleased with the results. Can you confirm the star rating and amenities for this listing? Thanks.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase.Enjoy your stay.
ronimous Posted September 7, 2009 Author Report Posted September 7, 2009 Some post-trip comments:I can confirm that the description of the Stratosphere from this site is the same as the amenities and star rating on Hotwire. I was confident when I purchased, and the results were what I expected. I'd rate the hotel slightly above 3 stars, many descriptions I read equated the rooms with a Motel 6. We've stayed in many Motel 6 rooms in the last year and the basic room at the Strat is way better. I tried the $20 trick with no luck when we checked in on Thursday. I was offered a suite at an additional $50/night. Passed on that and ended up with a basic room in the Premeire Tower on the 9th floor. View was most of the parking gargage, downtown, and the mountains. We thought it was an excellent value at $67 a night.Disappointments included the hotel shutting down the pool for the entire day after some morning drizzle. Even after the skies had completely cleared the pool remained closed. The casino was huge, but kind of sterile and not a lot of fun. I gambled downtown and received a ton of comps at the Vegas Club. We enjoyed our stay at the Stratosphere.
