rockermom Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Hello and thank you for this board. It was a great find and it seems the administrator really keeps it up to date. I need some help with a bidding strategy for Charleston Historic District through Priceline. I went ahead and gave it a shot (using your PRICELINE link)and I bid $125 for a 3 1/2 star hotel which was rejected. When I went to resubmit, it already had the 4 star checked, so I figured it already checked 4* as well. I am willing to go as low as 3* for $150. It looks like most sites have rooms going for upwards of $200 per night for September 9 - 11. HOTWIRE has 3* for $175. What is the best way to do this or am I really just bidding too low? Thank you for your help.
thereuare Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! When you select a star rating on PRICELINE it's the minimum that you're willing to accept... so when you search PRICELINE for a 3.5* property, it also tried for a 4* property, which is why the 4* optin was already checked when you tried to bid again. If you go to HOTWIRE they have quite a few properties in the Downtown/Historic District well below the amounts you quoted above... if you look at the boundaries of the HOTWIRE zone are you able to accept a hotel anywhere within that region? If you search HOTWIRE for your dates to do you see a 4* for ~$105/nite, 3.5* for $120/nite, 3* for $95/nite (your prices may differ sligthly)... or am i not searching on the correct dates? rockermom Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 I apologize, I didn't communicate my dates correctly. I meant to say September 11 - 13. Staying the weekend definetly kicks up the price. We are not driving so we pretty much have to stay in the historic district. That's what I get for staying up too late. Thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better? What is your maximum bid at each star level? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. rockermom Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Least expensive 3* or better. I need more money for shopping. :)
thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 To confirm... you haven't bid for a 3* hotel at all yet and above you bid $125 for a 3.5*, correct? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
rockermom Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 That's correct, I have not bid on a 3 star yet.
thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 At the 3* level you only have one re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. With a little bit of time on your side, i'd start with...Select 3* Downtown (which is the zone i assume you're refering to when you stay "Historic zone"??)...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100.Any questions feel free to ask.If the above is rejected post back and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. rockermom Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 3 1/2* Charleston - $159 Anchorage InnSeptember 11 - 13I really should have checked all the availability on the hotel websites before I decided to choose the 3 1/2 star, unfortunately, the Anchorage Inn only has 19 rooms and all of the doubles are booked. Considering there are two of us girls traveling together, a queen will be a little strange. The hotel is offering to upgrade me to the suite upon check-in by paying the difference of $20 per night, which still gives me a good rate, but the room is still showing as available on their hotel site, so I am nervous. Hopefully all will work out well. Either way, we won't be in our room that often. :)I used the HOTWIRE links through your site. Thank you so much.
rockermom Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 I bid $85 on 4 star rejectedadded rebid zone and raised to $100 rejectedadded rebid zone and 3 1/2 star and raised to $120 rejectedadded rebid zone raised to $140 - rejectedI gave up and went to HOTWIRE and got 3 1/2 * for $159. I posted under Hotwire forum. Thank you for your help.
AaronJB Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Congratulations on your win and thank you for sharing your results with the board.Glad you are pleased with the rate - hopefully the hotel will be able to provide the suite at check-in.What amenity icons were showing with this listing?Using the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase is greatly appreciated.Enjoy your stay.
