I've been bidding for Coral Gables since mid-October with no success until now, all the while watching the prices creep up. Bids up to $98 have been rejected. Considering my last bid for Coral Gables 4* resulted in the Hyatt for $46 and how no reported bid has been more than $70 for the Omni, this price is simply awful. (Also, there are 41 free rebids for a 4* in Coral Gables!)

However, the Omni website had the rate at $289, and Hotwire had this hotel for $118. The cheapest price on Travelaxe for my dates in Miami was the far less desirable 3* Crowne Plaza Hotel (Airport) for $328.48.

I don't have a good theory as to why the prices are so high, but perhaps because school is still out and because of the Orange Bowl at Pro Player Stadium on January 4?

You may say that the rate is 'awful', but relative to posted prices for these dates it is actually quite good... 1/3 of the price!!

The Orange Bowl is likely a good explanation for the higher rates, but it could also just be a busy time for this property due to a convention, wedding, business conference, etc, etc. Only other option may have been to bid the last nite separately (since the rate for that nite drops to $179), but with other 4* properties in the zone it could have resulted in you have to change properties... something you may not have been willing to do.

Thanks for the detailed post, and although it may have been more than you originally thought you would have needed to spend, the deal you received is excellent (relatively speaking).
