Hi!

We are looking for a 3-4 star hotel in MTE, MTW or CPS from 23/10/09 to 31/10/09. I am wondering if we need to do anything different because we need 8 nights. We have tried a few bids using the PRICELINE link on your website. So far we have been rejected bidding for 4* MTE and MTW using all 5 free rebids and going up to $150. Do we need to bid for two separate 4 night stays? What strategy should we use to attempt bidding for 3 1/2* or 3*. If we have to bid twice we will probably try for two different areas. The most we would like to spend is around $180/night. Thanks for your help!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Besides rates generally being on the high side this time of year, the NYC marathon is on 11/1 which brings people from all over the world into Manhattan, and that is probably effecting hotel prices as well.

Since you didn't include them on your previous bidding, are you not interested in the Times Square or Central Park South (or Empire State Building) areas?

What do you want to do first... try up to $180 for the complete stay at one hotel, try for a lower rated hotel at amounts you have already bid, or SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID?

Let us know how you'd like to proceed as well as the zone information we asked above and we'll take it from there.

We are interested in MTW, MTE and CPS (We just tried MTE and MTW first). I think we want to avoid staying in Times Square and I haven't really looked into Empire state building area. I will try starting out with 4* MTW, MTE and CPS and going up to $180 with the 5 free rebids. My boyfriend will then try doing the same with 3 1/2 * if we don't get anything. Then maybe we will consider splitting the bid. We would try for half the trip in MTE, MTW or CPS and then the other half in soho-downtown or chelsea. What advice do you have for splitting the bid? Thanks!

Let's take it one step at a time and we'll deal with SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID if it comes to that (although i suspect it likely will given rates for these dates)

Also, once you lower your star rating it's treated as an entirely new bid, so you don't have to switch who does the bidding... you can bid for 4* then if rejected continue on and bid for 3.5* without it being treated as a duplicate bid.

At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones... THREE re-bid zones at the 3.5* level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS and re-bid zone4...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS and re-bid zone5...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $180

If the above is rejected, post back and let us know if you then want to try for a 3.5* property, and if so, did you only want to bid for these 3 zones again, as you do have a lot more midtown zones which have 3.5* properties (but not 4*).

Any questions feel free to ask.

Hi, We have decided that we would like to split our bid. We would like to try for one bid in MTE, MTW and CPS (4*, up to 180). For the second bid we will try for Empire state and downtown-soho (4* up to 180) If that Fails we will try for a 3 1/2* and add madison square garden area. If that fails as well, we will try for a 3* and add Chelsea. We heard that we might be disappointed with 3* hotels in Chelsea, do you agree? Do you have any other strategies such as which locations to bid for first or for certain days of our trip?

Thanks again!

Have you tried the bidding above and were rejected OR have you decided it would be better to split the stay?

When splitting it's not always optimal to split 50/50, do you need to split 4days/4days or wouuld 5/3 or 6/2 work out just as well?

We finally had success in splitting our bid! We got the Roosevelt hotel (3 1/2* in MTE) from 23/10/09-28/10/09 for $140/night. We had a lot more trouble with the second half or trip. We ended up with Holiday Inn Downtown (3*) from 28/10/09 - 31/10/09 for $165/night.

It took many tries; we tried for 4* in CPS, MTE, MTW, Empire State, Downtown-Soho up to $180. Then went down to 3 1/2 * up to $180, then tried for 3*. For the 3* attempt I started with Chelsea, downtown-soho and empire state building at $150. Then increased my bidding by adding CPS, MTE, MTW etc until we matched at $165. Thanks for all your help! We used the PRICELINE link each time!

Congratulations on your success!

Glad to see you got this stay settled and hopefully are happy with the results... with the marathon these can be tough dates and i think overall you did pretty well.

We'll use this thread to reflect your win at the Roosevelt, can you please start a NEW TOPIC for your Holiday Inn win so that each can appear in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.

Enjoy your stay.
