mdh06 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 I will be in DC from September 12 - September 17 and would like to stay in the Dupont Circle - Woodley Park area. I really only want to bid on 4 * hotels in that area as I've been told not to stay in the downtown or capitol areas and that there is not a convenient metro stop near Georgetown. I would like to get soemthign for under $150 a night but would likely pay up to $200 a night. If someone could help me develop a bidding strategy and advise me on what my opening bid should be, I would be forever grateful. Many thanks,M
thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! We'll start with your $150 target and then if rejected (likely for these dates) we'll take it from there. At the 4* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Dupont Circle...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Dupont Circle and re-bid zone2...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Dupont Circle and re-bid zone3...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Dupont Circle and re-bid zone4...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Dupont Circle and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Dupont Circle and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone4...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Dupont Circle and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3 and re-bid zone4...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. mdh06 Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 I identified 5 rebid zones (Bethesda, Crystal City, DC Suburbs, Mount Vernon, and Silver Spring). Is there one included in my list that should not be? Are there any 5 star hotels in these areas I could inadvertently end up with? Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 You're correct, i misread my screen... FIVE re-bid zones (sorry about that)However, you can just follow the above since i believe it starts low enough for your dates and reaches your current maximum bid. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. mdh06 Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 I've reached $150, but I went ahead and started at $100 and increased to $120, $130, $140, then $150. When you said I liekly won't have any luck on these dates below $150 is that because of the tax rally that is planned, session starting again, or some other reason?
thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 I didn't think $150 would be successful based upon current prices... it doesn't really matter why rates are higher than usual, but it's important to note that they are. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. mdh06 Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Thanks! I've bid up to $190, but my backup hotel is a 4 star for $200, so I quit there for now. I will keep bidding periodically over the next couple of days. Please let me know if you have other suggesttions. Thanks for your help--it is much appreciated.

mdh06 Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 The Madison. It is fully refundable through Thursday the 10th. I found it on Priceline, but not through name your own bid. I realize that this is not in the one Priceline zone I am interested in, but I know exactly where this hotel is located and I'm okay with that area. I am not okay with other areas of the priceline zone that is located in though.

mdh06 Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Any suggestions on the best times/days to try again on Priceline? Any chance prices will go down in your opinion based on the current prices? Also, the Madison was substantially lower than any other hotels I could find and the priceline non-bidding rate I found was over $50 less per night than the Hotels.com rate. Any ideas as to why the priceline non-bidding rate for this hotel was so low? Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 There is no 'best' time of the day or day of the week, it's all based upon hotel supply/demand/occupancy levels at the hotel and they adjust rates accordingly. Can't say why PRICELINE retail offered a better deal than the other sites... could be a negotiated rated or different room class than offered elsewhere. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
