dolemite Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Hi, my gf and I are going to Chicago for the weekend, staying with friends at first, but thought we'd treat ourselves to a hotel stay on our last night. I've spent the last two days using the re-bid strategy, reloading between bids, and have gone, basically dollary-by-dollar from 70 up to 95 (I made a jump from 89 to 95). After my 88 dollar bid, Priceline gave me the screen that offered me the chance to resubmit my bid w/ identical parameters if I raised my price by $22. I declined, and just added an area and raised my bid to 95. Perhaps I should have gone higher/accepted the offer.Any ideas/tips would be GREATLY appreciated. Looking at the success of others, I assumed I would end up paying 75-80 dollars. What gives? Thanks.
thereuare Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are date specific, so it's not ucommon to a win for one set of dates not be duplicated for another set of dates... the first set may have very low deemand and/or the latter dates have higher demand. (higher demand --> higher rated --> higher PRICELINE bid necessary)Based upon the counter-offer you were given and your rejeted bids you 'know' that you can be successful between $96 and $110. What is your maximum bid for this stay?As budget appears to be a primary factor, would you consider the Loop zone which is often a little cheaper than the NMA zone? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. dolemite Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 First bid today, up a dollar from yesterday, $96 got me the Sheraton Chicago Hotel Tower. It would have been fun to get one of the more "boutique-y" hotels, but at $200 below what Sheraton is asking, I'll take it. Thanks for all your help!
