Hi -

Hoping someone could help with a strategy.

Looking to spend under $200 for a 4 star (1 room, 2 beds) in NYC, Sept 12-15

I'd be okay with ME, MW, TS.

If push came to shove, I'd live with CPS or UWS.

Can you help on bidding strategy?

Thanks.

(1 room, 2 beds)

Welcome to BetterBidding!

You can't guarnatee two beds with PRICELINE... all that is guaranteed is a room that will accomodate double occupancy. If two beds is a need (vs a want) you can try searching HOTWIRE for triple occupancy which will ensure accomodations for how ever many you include in your search (although note the 'second bed' could be a pullout sofabed or a rollaway brought into the room)

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

That didn't work out too well..

I guess, worst case we can try to get a cot from the front desk.

Just looking for the best price for a 4-star.

I've checked the strategies posted like - pick 4 stars, 5 areas...

Bid $120

Bid $130

Bid $135

Bid $140

Exit... then come back and re-enter through Betterbidding link

Bid $135

Bid $140

Bid...

Etc...

I guess I'll give that a shot.... unless you have other advice.

What didn't work out too well?
I guess, worst case we can try to get a cot from the front desk.
Note that there are many hotel rooms in NYC that are too small for a rollaway and/or hotels don't carry them.

You can take the risk if you want, but be awre that in NYC the risk of a hotel not being able to accomodate your request for 2 beds goes up substantially (vs. an area like Orlando which is used to accomodating families and a large percentage of rooms with two beds)

Please confirm that you'd like to use PRICELINE and we'll suggest a strategy to follow.

Hi... Yup, I'll use PRICELINE... I tried to follow the advice from another post (ie - bid $120, Bid $125, Bid $130, Bid $140... log out, link back in from BBidding, bid $145, Bid $150... etc)... But got rejected up to there, so I called it quits for the time being.

Cheers.

Does HOTWIRE show anything of interest?

Not really... If I follow the other advice and put "3 adults" (to try to assure 2 beds), the best is a 2 1/2 star in my price range... kinda dodgey.

If I do 2 adults, I get a 3 1/2 star, Midtown east for $209.... but that doesn't guarantee two beds.... or even room to fit a cot...

2 beds isn't do or die, but it's me and my brother... we'd prefer two beds, or at least a bed and a sofa...

Current plan is to book in New Jersey, near the train or bus, at a "cancellable" rate (usually only $5-$10 more a night), and keep scoping a last minute deal in NYC.

It doesn't seem like there's a lack of rooms. Just a lack of desire for the hotels to drop their prices to a reasonable rate.....
