BACI Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 I have tried PRICELINE through the forum's links multiple times for the past week. I am looking for car rentals on Maui 9/16-9/20 economy and Kauai 9/20-9/23 economy and have bid from $9-18 with no results. I have tried every car category at a multitude of prices. I have tried convertibles on both islands for up to $30 with no bites. I see others have gotten cars in these price ranges, what am I doing wrong? Is there a specific time of day that yields the lowest prices? I have noticed many of the best deals are in the early hours of the morning. Please help! :)
thereuare Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please use separate threads for your Maui and Kauai rentals. We'll use this thread for your Maui rental, please start a NEW TOPIC for your Kauai rental. In Hawaii the rental companies have greatly reduced their fleets and we've seen an increase in rentla rates. What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channles (use our Car Rental Checker to assist in yoru search) at each of the car classes you have bid? What is HOTWIRE offering? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. BACI Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 On car rental checker best rate for economy is $30 and hotwire is $28 for Maui. I just don't understand...other people are getting these rates through priceline for convertibles! Ideally, I would like to pay half of these rates for a mid-size, as I have read others have.
thereuare Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Just like hotels, rates are date specific... if a car rental company already has reservations for a large percent of their fleet accounted for, why discount the remaining cars too deep when they might be able to sell on their own for full asking price? As most rental companies allow reservations that are fully refundable (most don't even require a credit card) i would book your best rate now to protect yourself from prices rising even further, then you can continue to try PRICELINE and HOTWIRE to better your existing deal (please check/use the links in our support page under "Car Rentals" if any of those offer the best refundable price). You may want to keep your limits at current levels, but then increase as you get inside of 7-10 days. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated and let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.
