nortica Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 I am trying to get a hotel room for one night at Boston-Logan Airport for 8/26. Prefer 4*, but I can be flexible. Prefer not to pay over $85. My experience is that 4*'s on Priceline are just the Hyatt and the Hilton. I bid for 4* rooms at Logan a lot (I live 2.5 hrs from the airport and often need a room before or after a flight) and in the past I've been successful as low as $52 and have had to pay up to $85 on occasion. Only once (out of around two dozen times over the years) was I not able to get a 4* on Priceline at Logan for under $85.Last Wednesday night (8/19) I got a room at the Hyatt. The rack rate at the Hyatt was $183 and I got accepted on my first bid for $60, making me think I should have started bidding lower. It may be relevant to note that I made this bid on 8/18, just two days before my stay. Now for this Wednesday night, 8/26, the rack rate at the Hyatt is also $183, but I haven't been able to get a room, even when bidding up to $85. My last bid was yesterday, 8/21. Do I just need to keep waiting till closer to the date, or is it time to start lowering my stars? I may be getting close to college arrival dates, making availability lower, but then I'm confused why the rack rate is identical to last week. I'm new to this site, but will use your link on future bids. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Let's aasume that when the hotel is between 50%-75% occupancy they set their rate at $183. Likewise they release inventory to PRICELINE when anytime the hotel has less than 60% occupancy. The hotel could have 70% occupancy for your date above... still within the threshold for the $183 hotel direct rate... but above the threshold for them to be giving inventory to the opaque suppliers (or at least not at rock bottom discoutn rates)Let us know whatever you and up doing for this stay and please use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. nortica Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 Thanks for your helpful explanation with the example. Makes a lot of sense. So today, two days before arrival, I just bid again, starting at $60 and going all the way up to $100 in $5 increments, for 4* and 3.5* in the Logan area but no luck (other than, at $94 for a 4* I got a counter offer to raise by $22).So I started over, bidding at $60 for a 2.5* (I skipped over the 3* option with the hopes of avoiding the Four Points by Sheraton which is far from Logan and not as nice in my experience as the 2.5* Hampton Inn -- I realize this is risky because they could always "upgrade" the offer and give me a 3* anyway, or I could get the 2.5* Comfort Inn which is way up Rte 1 near the Four Points, but the stars were aligned I guess because it worked today). I got the Hampton Inn on my first bid so I'm very happy. (Probably could have started bidding for 2.5* at a lower price.)Hampton Inn Boston-Logan Airport230 Lee Burbank HighwayRevere, MA 02151781-286-5665 Check-In: Wednesday, August 26, 2009-03:00 PM Check-Out: Thursday, August 27, 2009-11:00 AM Summary of Charges:Room Cost: $60.00 (USD) Room Subtotal: $60.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $15.17 (USD) Total Room Cost: $75.17 (USD) I used your link.
