FattyToro Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 Looking for advice on bidding on 4* hotel in ESBA, ME, MW and TS areas on priceline for 1 room on sep 17-20th. Any idea what going rates are for these dates and what the current hotel lists are?

AaronJB Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 The list at the link includes what hotels have been reported to the board so far. There could always be new/unexpected/previously unreported properties show up, but the list shows what has been reported to this point.
thereuare Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Your budget shouldn't be an issue for these dates, but before bidding, is there a reason you're not including the CPS zone? This zone usually works out just as well as the others you've mentioned for the typical visitor, but not sure if you have specific plans which make this zone inconvenient for your needs or if there is a hotel in this area that you're trying to avoid.Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. FattyToro Posted August 23, 2009 Author Report Posted August 23, 2009 CPS would be fine as well. Let's use a budget of $200.
thereuare Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* ESB, MTE, MTW, TS and CPS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB, MTE, MTW, TS and CPS and re-bid zone4...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB, MTE, MTW, TS and CPS and re-bid zone5...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB, MTE, MTW, TS and CPS and re-bid zone4 and re-bid zone5...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. FattyToro Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Thereuare,I've checked out the hotel reviews and decided that I wanted to narrow the list down to only two zones, ESB and TS. Can you provide revised bidding strategy? Any way of starting the bidding at a lower price? Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Any way of starting the bidding at a lower price? What level would you like to start at? Do you think that under $125/nite is realistic for these dates given the two zones you're bidding? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Rates are lower than i thought they would be for these dates, but sub-$125 this time of year i don't think is realistic, especially for the two zones that you now want to bid.But if you want to give it a try you can start with this:Select 4* TS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB and TS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB and TS and re-bid zone4...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB and TS and re-bid zone5...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB and TS and re-bid zone4 and re-bid zone5...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. FattyToro Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Thanks, just to clarify, can I replace CPS with TS?
thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 YES... fixed above. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
FattyToro Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 Just tried starting the bidding, but wanted to double check something:when you say add re-bid zone 1, you mean to just add the zone 1 from Priceline's list, meaning Brooklyn, correct? In the next step, for bid $115, re-bid zone 2, then that would mean to add Central Park South to the list, which does contain 4* hotels, but we wanted to avoid CPS. Please let me know if I'm interpreting this incorrectly.

Please let me know if I'm interpreting this incorrectly. No, this is not correct, as per above:(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)You need to list your FIVE re-bid zones, then:re-bid zone1 = the first re-bid zone in your listre-bid zone2 = the second re-bid zone in your listre-bid zone3 = the third re-bid zone in your listetc, etcDoes that make it clearer? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. FattyToro Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 I see, so the rebid zones are ones that don't contain 4* hotels for my case, correct? eg, Brooklyn, Chelsea...
thereuare Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Yes, that's correct. If you'd like, feel free to confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. FattyToro Posted August 29, 2009 Author Report Posted August 29, 2009 Was unsuccessful with 200 as the cap. Do the hotels change their lowest prices for dates on a daily/regular basis or at all?
thereuare Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 You have/had your re-bid zones correct, but for future reference, DON"T use the hotel lists to determine your re-bid zones or you can easily end up in a zone you didn't intend. Use the technique outlined in the first post of Priceline Re-Bidding Explained.Just like 'reguular' hotel rates can (and do) change daily based upon the latest changes in supply/demand and hotel occupancy, the same goes for 'opaque' rates.I suspect you're not far off. Are your current thoughts to wait it out and try again, increase your budget towards your $250 maximum, or lower your star rating? Note that HOTWIRE has a well reviewed (4.0/5.0 Tripadvisor rating) 4* hotel in the MTC zone for $209/nite with Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business... guess would include the Helmsley Park Lane, Royalton, and Warwick, if these are of interest to you. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. FattyToro Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Posted September 1, 2009 Update: unsuccessful afterAttempt #1 max of $200Attempt #2 max of $230Attempt #3 max of $260
AaronJB Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 HOTWIRE has 4*'s in Midtown for $209-275 for these dates. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link.
thereuare Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Update: unsuccessful afterAttempt #1 max of $200Attempt #2 max of $230Attempt #3 max of $260Is there a reason you're not interested in the HOTWIRE properties, some of which are priced lower than you have already bid? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. FattyToro Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Posted September 1, 2009 I've never used Hotwire before. Do you have a list of hotels for HOTWIRE as well?
