I'm trying to bid on Priceline for a hotel in San Francisco, and closing the browser and starting over is not working. Priceline keeps rejecting my newer offers saying they are duplicates. I'm linking to PRICELINE through this site. What could I be doing wrong?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

You can't just close the browser and start over, you need to add a re-bid zone, which by definition, is a zone which contains only hotels lower than the star level you are bidding.

Do you recall your exact bid history in regards to which zone(s) and star levels you selected?

What are the dates of your stay?

My travel dates are 9/16 - 9/22. I started with a bid of $75 for 3.5 stars in Fisherman's Wharf. I then countered by adding the Marina area and raised bid to $80. Still no match, so I closed the browser and started a new one. Tried $85 for 3.5 stars in FW but was rejeted as duplicate, told to wait 24 hours.

Your $85 would be a duplicate since it is exactly the same as your first bid at $75.

Before bidding again i think you should try to get a handle on re-bidding. At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones. A re-bid zones would be a zone that only has hotels rated 3* or lower. You can determine your re-bid zones by using this technique from Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a PRICELINE page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)

Using the above see if you can determine your THREE re-bid zones at the 3.5* level... or if you're confused post back and we'll break it down further for you.

Trying to get hotel in Fishermans Wharf for 9/17 - 9/22

Bidding history for 3.5 star in Fishermans Wharf

$80 3.5 FW, rejected

$85 3.5 FW plus Civic Center, rejected

$90 3.5 FW, CC, plus Marina, rejected

$95 3.5 FW, CC, MAR, plus South SF, rejected

What are the chances of $95 being accepted if I keep trying each day?

Essentially you would need a hotel in this zone to lower the current price that they're willing to accept. Rates can, and do, change all the time, but using HOTWIRE has a rough guide they're currently offering a 3.5* in the Fishermans Wharf zone at $185/nite, so at the moment sub-$95 doesn't seem likely.

Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Would any of the Downtown zones work for your needs?
