Priceline Hotel: Bidding Help. NYC

I am looking into a 10 day stay in New York for a friend.

October 2-12

There will be 2 people so double beds would be needed (which I know with Priceline it is a gamble but some get lucky).

Area preferred is the Times Square area (Theater District) or Upper or Lower Midtown (close enough and not too far from Times Square).

I haven't seen any winning bids for any hotel class for these dates yet. I am looking for a 4 star level if possible and am willing to spend up to $180-$200 (with tax) per night.

I have attempted already with only 4 star up to $155 (which would be around $180 with tax) with the following areas - Times Square, Upper East and West Side, Central Park South, Madison Square Gardens, and Chelsea.

Bid placed on Aug. 16.

Two hotels (with their current site rates) I see often won and would be good options are:

Crowne Plaza TS - actually says sold out from Orbitz site... hmmm - big event going on?

Sheraton NY and Towers - $348 per night (without tax)

Hotwire shows a 4 star in the central park area for $239 or 3 stars in this surrounding area for around $210.

Is it too early to get a good deal? I could think about splitting up the bids for two 5 night stays to cover the 10 day stay in New York.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

October is an expensive month in NYC and $170 (which comes to about $200 after fees and taxes) may not be enough for this complete stay. Based upon current rates, you may be able to get a portion of your stay within that budget, but the balance will likely cost more.

Does your friend want to try SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID at this point in time or hold-out and hope that some lower priced inventory is released for this complete stay?

Also, i noticed that you did not include MTE, MTW, or ESB in your bidding... is there a reason (hotel or location that you dont' like) you're not including these zones in your bidding?

Only reason to limit to those areas is to stay close to Times Square area. I will suggest that they consider all these areas to maximize the odds to get a 4 star hotel. If not, the 3.5 star hotels look to be in range for those areas and dates.

Thanks

Not sure if the idea of being close to Times Square is your idea or theirs, but in all likelihood they won't be spending the majority of their time there.
