gelatiii Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 HelloI am trying to bid for a resort in the Waikiki beach or Marina area, bidded up to $99 with no success. Only ticked Resort category but used free rebid zones.I see others able to get the Marriott to early November 2009.Am I bidding too soon or is November a busy month? Is it because of Thanksgiving? The Priceline page says the average hotel retail price is $219 for this category. I used the PRICELINE link from here to start bidding.Thank you.
thereuare Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are dates specific... if you search the Marriott website for some of the dates where we've seen $99 wins, you'll find hotel hotel direct rates are in high $100/low $200 range. Checking your dates rates are nearly $300/nite, which would imply higher than usual stronger demand for your dates and a higher than usual bid needed to win. (at least based upon current rates at this point in time)Is $100 your maximum bid? Thanks for using our PRICELINE link for your bidding. gelatiii Posted August 17, 2009 Author Report Posted August 17, 2009 I might bid a bit higher ($115) but maybe I should try bidding for a 4 star if that's still not accceptable...or change my dates...
thereuare Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 For example if you change your dates to a week earlier, 11/7-11/15 hotel direct rates start at $179/nite and i would think you'd then have a better chance at success at the prices you're currently bidding.Let us know if you want a strategy to bid higher or if you'd like to try for different dates. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. gelatiii Posted August 20, 2009 Author Report Posted August 20, 2009 I might stick to my dates for now as we're flying out of Oahu. I tried bidding in small increments, I hit $114 and the site asked me to added another $22 on top of that. I'm guessing I will be successful if I add another $10 or so? I might try bidding for a 4 star hotel.
yellowdog Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Maybe you'll hit it within $10 or you might have to go all the way. But start bidding in $3 steps from here since you have the time on your side. Please use boards PRICELINE link and let us know how it goes.Yellowdog.
