Priceline Hotel: Thinking of trying for THE Hotel 5* South Strip

The Hotel at Mandalay Bay appears to be the only 5 star in the South Strip. I dont really trust Priceline for any other hotels or locations for fear of getting the Trump or the Westin. It doesnt look like anybody has won this hotel for a while. Should I try bidding, or stick with hotwire where I can at least hope for ceasars(4.5*), wynn, venetian, or palazzo? My dates are 9/25-9/28. It looks like the longer I wait the more expensive it will be as thats a busy weekend.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

While THEhotel is the only 5* hotel reported to the board in the South Strip, there could be another hotel in the area not yet reported to the board that PRICELINE deems to be 5* rated and you could be the first to report it to the board. If you're looking for a bit more insight in regards to what hotel you might receive, HOTWIRE would be a better option, imo.

HOWEVER, a more important factor in this decision i think is where on the strip you'd like to be.

We are going to be all over the place, but i was really hoping for The Hotel as we will be seeing Britney Spears at the Mandalay on the 27th. I used the PRICELINE link on your site last night and tried a few lowball bids up to $80 and was rejected. Whats the most I should bid? Im thinking of going up to 120, and then possibly going through HOTWIRE for another hotel if that doesnt work. Thanks for your help!

What is the best available rate at THEhotel for your dates thru traditional booking channels?

If you went up to your maximum and then went with HOTWIRE, would that be a for a 5* hotel? If so, what is the current rate of the property you would go for?

Thanks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links :)

Well, I continued bidding up to $120. It turns out THEHotel is sold out on Saturday the 26th so I obviously wont keep bidding. In reviewing Hotwire's available hotels that weekend, the prices were about the same as booking directly through a hotel. I went ahead and booked a package at NYNY directly through their website just so I have something if most hotels are selling out that weekend. I can cancel up to 48 hours before my trip, so I will keep checking HOTWIRE for any new deals as the trip gets closer, and I will let you know if I find something. Thank you SO much for all your help!
