krdoll01 Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 New poster here. I am currently looking on Hotwire for trip to NYC on 9/10-9/13 specifically in the Times Square, MTE, or MTC areas. I had been looking for a trip in the same areas during 8/6-8/9 and the prices were much cheaper ($169 in August compared to $222 in September for similar hotel). Is there a general reason for the increase in price for rooms. I am looking for the rooms a similar amount of time in advance of the travel date, but wasn't sure if NYC was busier during September or some other reason.Should I wait longer and prices will decrease, or do they generally increase a month in advance of the trip. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.BTW, love the site, great reviews, topics, and very well maintained. Great job.

AaronJB Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Fall in NYC is generally on the pricey side, with conventions and generally optimal weather. What would be your budget per night and what areas are you interested in staying in?
krdoll01 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Report Posted August 12, 2009 Thanks for the info. The hotel that I originally searched for was the Stay Hotel. I had booked the room in August 6-9 for $169, but had to cancel due to a medical emergency. Now I am rebooking my trip in September and the prices just look ~$60 more per night. 4* Stay. HotelAmenities: Boutique, Restaurant, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, BusinessThis is for an anniversary, so I wanted to stay in a nicer hotel, but wanted to get a decent deal. I was looking in the Times Square, MTE, and MTC areas. I wasn't necessarily set on these areas, but they seemed to be good areas for sightseeing and easy to get around. Thanks for the help.
AaronJB Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Are you seeing any HOTWIRE properties that appeal to you when you search? HOTWIRE may be more expensive, but you can possibly pinpoint a hotel you might like. PRICELINE would be less expensive, but you could potentially wind up at one of as many as several hotels, depending on what you bid for.
krdoll01 Posted August 13, 2009 Author Report Posted August 13, 2009 I've never used PRICELINE, so I was just uneasy about it, but not against. How much cheaper can you generally get the rooms? Is it significant?

krdoll01 Posted August 13, 2009 Author Report Posted August 13, 2009 Not right now at my desired rate, because I was looking at 4 star, then possibly 3.5 star. They were currently above my desired rate. However, I was afraid of waiting and the price getting even more inflated. I am just unfamiliar with the rates in NYC in September.
thereuare Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Rates begin to get higher after Summer and the beginning of Fall (the weather gets nice too! :) )I'd book a cancellable back-up so you can continue to monitor HOTWIRE in the coming weeks in an attempt to beat your best deal while also being protected against rates only rising from here. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
