bucks724 Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 I'm new to this forum, but I'd like a bidding strategy for October 23-25, preferably close to the Loop/Mag Mile area and would definitely prefer to be under $100 per night if possible.I prefer an indoor pool (like at Homewood Suites) but it's not a necessity, although we're bringing our 11 year old daughter along. So a nice place, but kid-friendly.Thanks!
AaronJB Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)The issue with PRICELINE is that one cannot specify amenities (pool) and if you are a party of 3, then 2 beds is not guaranteed. Bedding for more than 2 can be guaranteed using HOTWIRE, but prices for the downtown area are on the high side for these dates, with 3.5-4* properties showing in the $150+ range. You may be able to squeak by and get a 3-4* in the downtown for $100 via PRICELINE, but you would risk potentially not getting two beds.Let us know your thoughts on the above and we would then be happy to make further tips/suggestions.Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links when you are ready to book.
bucks724 Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 I know to use the link for sure!As for Priceline, do you think that going in EARLY to the hotel (our plane lands at 8:25 a.m.) and requesting a room with 2 beds will give us a better shot at getting 2 beds? Or even getting a rollaway?I don't care about specifying amenities, particularly. The indoor pool would be nice though. But if a better price can be had less that amenity, I'm not discounting it.
AaronJB Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 I would recommend calling the hotel and politely (because whether or not you get the request put in may depend on who you talk to) requesting two beds. If they say no, I'd try again at check-in - there's no way to know though, whether visiting check-in early for these particular days will provide a benefit or not; I'd ask the hotel, as they would have a better idea of traffic for these dates at their property.$90 for a 4* bid in either the Millennium Park-Loop-Grant Park area or the River North-NMA area would be a reasonable starting bid for these dates.

Here's the rundown:1st bid: $60 for 4* Millennium Park area - rejected2nd bid: $62 for 4* or 3.5* Millennium Park area - rejected3rd bid: $64 for 4* or 3.5* in Millennium Park or River North/Michigan Ave. area - ACCEPTEDWe got the Hyatt Regency on E.
