jig Posted August 12, 2009 Author Report Posted August 12, 2009 thanks, any pointers to get the best price/hptel?
yellowdog Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 We still don't know what city you're talking about!Yellowdog.
ReconDoc Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Based on what I have seen so far in 2009:If you are bidding on a 4 star in the centrum-museum zone you should get either the NH Carlton or the NH Amsterdam Centre. (both well located central 4's) The prices we have seen would mean an opening bid of about $65 USD (or less if you are inclined)-(you can do the conversion for the UK site) You should get a winner there at $65 or a few dollars more as in by $75 USD. We have seen lots of summer winners at $60-$65-$68-$70-$75If you are going for a 5 star then the NH Krasnapolsky, the Barbizon Palace, or the Grand Hotel Amrath are what you should get. I have seen the Hilton show up one time this year and at a very high bid amount......@$130.Winning bids for 5 stars have gone from real low to a bit higher. I'd guess that about $75 USD would be a good opening bid or a 5*. I'd expect a winner there or by the time you hit $85 or $90.Good Luck
jig Posted August 12, 2009 Author Report Posted August 12, 2009 Thanks thats great. Im from the UK and will be using the uk site, is there anything I should be aware of, can I bid twice in parallel one on a four star and at the same time on the 5 star? Thanks
MadFlyer Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 A 4 star bid always is considered a bid for 4 and 5 star. You get 3 rebids or more with a system in Amsterdam for 5*. Rates look little higher on Hotwire so would guess you could win 4* at equivelant of $74-75 (
jig Posted August 13, 2009 Author Report Posted August 13, 2009 Ive started the bidding at 50 pounds yesterday, and upped to 55 pounds, still now joy, they are offering a room 95 punds in the 5 star range, was really hoping to book by today or the latest tommorow morning. What should I do?ThanksJig
yellowdog Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Your bid might not be high enough. Are you using your free zones for the bidding? You must use them carefully since you're leaving soonIf you have reach your budget for a 5* so start over for the 4* option. Please post amounts in $USDYellowdog.
ReconDoc Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 "Ive started the bidding at 50 pounds yesterday, and upped to 55 pounds"This is for a 4* or a 5*? About $82 USD is 50 pounds. That should be more than enough for a 4 maybe a few dollars short if you are going for a 5. Maybe. At another site we have seen a small slow down as far as great prices. Folks recently were trying for Sept and Oct and Nov and not getting anything at a really low price. Then all of a sudden bidders started to hit on $65 USD--- 4 stars. If it were me I'd be bidding on a 4 star and offer $65 USD as my starting bid. Already did that you say? Well then do it again.I just saw one fall bidder strike out at $65 and then bid $65 a day or so later and come up with a winner on a 4*.I am not aware of anything on your dates that would make it a more expensive time than what we have seen all summer as far as PL and Amsterdam bidding.
