Priceline Hotel: 3* Orange County (Laguna Hills-Mission Viejo) Ayres Hotel & Spa

Won on the first bid. There are two Ayres facilities at this location: the Ayres Suites Mission Viejo (listed on this site as 2.5*) and the Ayres Hotel and Spa Mission Viejo (not listed on this site, but classified by Priceline as 3*). The Hotel and Spa just opened this year, and it's on the upper end of suite-type hotels. The complementary full breakfast is outstanding (although, the weekend cook is better than the weekday cook). The building is shaped like a triangle with the interior part consisting of an outdoor courtyard. The courtyard has patio tables, chairs and sofas, a glass fire pit, a large fountain and pleasing vegetation. We enjoyed eating our breakfast in the courtyard. At night we sat around the fire pit (which my daughter liked a lot). This is a steal at $50/night.

Minor quibbles: There is no pool at the Hotel and Spa, but the sister facility has a pool that Hotel & Spa guests are entitled to use (you just have to walk across the parking lot). Also, these facilities are located on the very edge of the city (foothills side); this may bother those who wish for a more central location.

Finally, there is a great family-owned Italian restaurant (Piccolinos) located just down the street in a strip mall. Food is great (and I'm picky) and prices are reasonable.

I didn't use the PRICELINE link on this site (just registered today) but will do so in the future.
