SARRRA Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 I am trying for a 3* for a Saturday nite on 8/15/09 in Santa Barbara. Hotel Oceana would be great for us. On 8/6, I bid $150 and was rejected. Will I need to bid much more for a win? Or is it better to wait a few more days before trying $150 (or another amount) rather than trying again now? Any advice would be great. Santa Barbara is a tough town, but I heard that there have been empty rooms all summer, even during Fiesta right now.
yellowdog Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! You need to be willing to stay in any 3* hotel within the PRICELINE zone you're bidding at. We don't know if there's any new additions that's not reported to the board.I think you should keep bidding, no reason to wait.Best rate at Hotel Oceana is $425 for this night! What is your maximum for your stay?Yellowdog.
SARRRA Posted August 9, 2009 Author Report Posted August 9, 2009 Thanks for the response. I just bid $160 for the 3* Santa Barbara and was declined. The most I'm willing to pay is $200 so that's like a $170 bid with taxes and fees, right? I'm willing to take any 3* in SB if I can't get Oceana, but I'm not willing to pay that kind of money for the Best Western or Ramada in Goleta. Any ideas?
AaronJB Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 The Best Western is $195 on Orbitz.com, then the SUMMERVIN coupon takes off an additional 15% (although that coupon may require using a Visa to work.) With 15% off, I'm seeing $190 and change as the total w/tax.Please use the site's Orbitz.com link to start your purchase if this idea is of interest.
SARRRA Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 We probably won't spend that kind of money for a Best Western but I appreciate the idea. Thanks! Still bidding... today $170 was denied.
zibbyz Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Hi there,I was wondering if you had any luck and what your "magic" number was....I am looking in Santa Barbara as well.Cheers,Zibby :)
SARRRA Posted August 13, 2009 Author Report Posted August 13, 2009 Zibby--- No Magic Number. Totally failed on PRICELINE. Bid of 190 for a 3 star was denied. Bid of 150 for 2 1/2 star was declined. Was unwilling to bid more than that for unknown hotel.Ended up waiting until Thursday (for a Saturday reservation), made a bunch of phonecalls, and got a room at country house inn (a B&:) for $207 (includes breakfast). Santa Barbara is a tough place for a Sat. only reservation. Good luck!
