I was going to book a Knight's Inn for $50 after tax which includes free wifi and breakfast, but apparently this is a busy season for McAllen and the rate jumped to $70 midway through booking.

Great hotel! I reviewed it on TripAdvisor. Traditional breakfast (bacon, eggs, bread, juice) for room service was only $9! Garage parking which leads directly to the hallways on which you're staying. Very curteous staff. They let me do late checkout at 1pm. Each room also gets two complimentary bottles of water, which I've never seen happen at other hotels. Location is on Main St. Can't do better than that!
