fortbadger Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 I've been reading this site for a few weeks and am ready to give this a shot. My wife and I were able to arrange a last-minute trip to Chicago without the kids.Arrive Friday, August 7thDepart Sunday, August 9thWill spend some time at Navy Pier. Would like a spot within walking distance. Would like a 4+ star hotel. One roomWon't need parking as we are taking the train in.Any suggestions as to how to get the best deal? Thanks
AaronJB Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Welcome to the site. This is the weekend of the Lollapalooza Festival in Grant Park; unfortunately, as a result prices in the downtown area are sky-high. Have you already bought train tickets? What would be your budget per night? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
fortbadger Posted August 6, 2009 Author Report Posted August 6, 2009 We haven't gotten train tickets yet but would be taking the Metra in from Harvard. I would like to keep the price in the $125-$145 per night range.
AaronJB Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to be possible for these dates. HOTWIRE has no hotels available downtown and it would appear that about 90% of the hotels downtown for these dates are sold out, with a couple of exceptions in the Michigan Ave. area. You could try bidding for a 3* at $125 in the River North/Michigan Ave. area on PRICELINE in an attempt to get one of the couple of hotels available in that area, but the chance of having a bid accepted is slim, and with PRICELINE one is not guaranteed 2 beds (which would probably be more of an issue than usual, given how busy these dates are.)Are there any alternate date possibilities? This is unfortunately just an extremely busy set of dates in the city. Please use the site's PRICELINE link to start your purchase.
fortbadger Posted December 23, 2009 Author Report Posted December 23, 2009 We ended up going to Chicago just for the day as the price and locations for hotels just didn't work. We only live 2 hours from Chicago so the drive was better than the extra costs.
