Flying in to LGA on 8/12 and flying out from LGA on 8/19. We are 3 people (1 adult, 2 teenage kids) and would like 3.5* or 4* accomodation. What strategy should I use to avoid millenium UN for MTE? Was also thinking of getting NY explorer pass for 7 attractions, is that a good way to go? Thanks

I think you got pretty lucky when using PRICELINE for triple occupancy for your previous purchase at the Downtown Club Quarters as it's usually considered a fairly bid risk to use PRICELINE for more than double occupancy in NYC (rooms are notoriusly small and a large number of rooms only have one bed with little or no room for a rollaway)

Are you willing to take this risk again and want to use PRICELINE for this stay? If so we can suggest a strategy... if not i did find what i believe to be the Ramada New Yorker for triple occupanyc at $134/nite which generally gets good reviews since their recent renovation, but is in the Chelsea-MSG zone which most consider to still be a good location but you can check for yourself to see if this would work well fro your plans.

From your experience, do you know of any some specific hotels in certain zones that have very small rooms that cannot accomodate rollaway? I would like to try priceline for triple occupancy and take a chance ( do have friends in Long island who can accomodate us if needed). What would be a good strategy? Thanks

Yes, it was on HOTWIRE, but now appears to be priced at $165/nite on my latest HOTWIRE search... 3.5* in the Chelsea-MSG zone with Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet and a Tripadvisor rating of 4.0/5.0 with 580+ reviews which is what i believed to be the New Yorker. Not sure if still appealing to you at this price or not... at this price the Sheraton New York becomes an option as well.

I tried extending my stay at club quarters for 2 days prior but priceline came back with price of $165 per night which is on high side. Should I try hotwire as priceline seems risky for 3 people in one room. Any other thoughts?

I would stick with HOTWIRE as i do think it's risky to use PRICELINE in NYC for more than double occupancy, and for the $165/nite price PRICELINE counter-offered, you can get a more central location while ensuring enough sleeping accomodations for everyone in your family.

I will add that if budget is a primary objective that Jersey City (NJ) might work for your needs... you lose much of the NYC vibe and it's not as convenient to head back to your hotel midday, but you could get a very nice Jersey City hotel for ~$135/nite with easy PATH train (to midtown in ~15 minutes) access to Manhattan. You would know better than I how much your kids would 'miss' not staying in NYC for this leg of your trip, but i throw it out there as an option.
