retaks Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 :) Hi.I need some bidding advice for PRICELINE. I'm looking to book for 2 nights the weekend of 9.4.09. I would like a 4* at the south strip area but I don't want to end up at the Westin. Seems like the north strip 4* may be a better way to go?Anyway, I was thinking of bidding 100 or 110 a night. Thoughts?
yellowdog Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!North Strip is the only way to go if you don't want to get the Westin. Another route is HOTWIRE. If you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive. If your mind is set on PRICELINE so please post your dates, max budget/night, star rating for hotel and you'll get help with a bidding strategy. But bidding in the North zone can give you the Trump, no casino and slight off the Strip. Post back with your thoughts and we'll go from there.Yellowdog.
retaks Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 ill take my chances with south. what should i start my bid at?
Vacagrl Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Bidding for vegas $100 may be a bit high - we are going to the mirage for $130 thru their website on a weekend and another weekday to mandalay bay for $99. Both trips are in September.just my 2 cents....

retaks Posted August 5, 2009 Author Report Posted August 5, 2009 I would say my max bid would be 110. I was thinking of starting a bid at ~95.
thereuare Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Before bidding i'll caution that if you're trying to avoid the Westin, it is likely a real possibility for this stay as the hotel direct price is only $129/nite (and bidding up to $110 may be too high)If you're ok with this outcome, i'd try as follows:At the 4* level you have TWO re-bid zones (NOTE: Summerlin is not one of them). If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Strip South...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rjeected add re-bid zone...Bid $75.The above may prove to be too low but i'd start there given you have time on your side and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours if rejected. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. retaks Posted August 7, 2009 Author Report Posted August 7, 2009 I think I'm actually going to go with the north. I'm still going to bid 4* but if I end up with the Trump, it won't be ideal but probably better than the Westin. So for the rebidding, I need to select an area without a 4* hotel correct? So that it still searches just the north. What areas would those be? I don't want to get stuck with something off the strip.
ialvarado2 Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 if you don't mind Trump you could just stick with 5 stars and gett a lot of rebidding zones, that worked for me and got it very cheap

retaks Posted August 8, 2009 Author Report Posted August 8, 2009 I tried for two nights but no luck yet.First night:bid 80 on north, rebid using boulder strip for 85, then rebid speedway for 90, no luck.Second night:bid 91 on north, rebid 95, rebid 96. no go.I'll keep trying. The first night the counter offer for a 4* north was 135, second night it was 149.
