reid77 Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 OK, logging this here to hopefully add clarity for future users. Greensboro doesn't seem to have the intel that some other areas have, but it's right on a bunch of highways, so I figure the info is needed, at least for folks passing through. reid77 Posted August 21, 2009 Author Report Posted August 21, 2009 OK, just got back from my trip, so here's a capsule review of the Hyatt Place in West Greensboro.First of all, I'm a fan of this concept, which is a bit similar to Embassy Suites without as many bells and whistles. It's not a "full-service hotel" (a la Sheraton or Hilton) but it has just enough for me... and more than some of the full-service places. It's suite-style rooms (bedroom / sitting room with pull-out couch, though no close-able door between them), free continental-style breakfast bar and free Internet. There are luggage carts available for schlepping your stuff in, but no bellmen to pay. (Perfect for me. Tipping the bellmen is a custom I can do without, thanks.) And free parking. I think Hyatt has taken over the old Amerisuites brand (which I liked too) and the results are good.At this particular property, the decor was nicely updated and smart looking. Check-in was super easy. The room (really, the suite) was rather impressive and included a mini-fridge underneath a desk, a sectional couch with pull-out bed, a nicely appointed main bed and an enormous flatscreen HDTV situated between the two rooms and capable of swiveling in either direction. The free breakfast was Holiday Inn Express-style and nothing fancy, but included cereals (hot and cold), fresh fruit (melons, cantelope, bananas) and bread/spreads. I was able to bring enough up to the room for the family without any fuss. The breakfast bar area included plenty of seating and a few more HDTVs.The only minor quibble with the whole property is the ice machine. As far as I know, there's only one, on the ground floor, and not one on each guest floor as is the usual practice. Overall, well worth what I paid and then some. And right off I-40 for those passing through Greensboro to other places or commuting into downtown for business.
