jersguitar Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Hi there - Looking to book a hotel room in Downtown Victoria, BC for August 22 - 25. Hotwire returns a 4 star hotel for $109 / night. Listed amenities are:Resort, Oceanfront, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness Centre, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Centre, High-Speed Internet Access.Looking at tripadvisor.com, my best guess was that this might match the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort, but I thought I'd ask here. I'll be happy to update if I pursue this booking. Thanks, jer
thereuare Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 The Delta is a possibility, but a 'red flag' to note is that the TA information shown by HOTWIRE shows 4.5/5.0 while this property at Tripadvisor currently shows 4.0/5.0. HOTWIRE's info is a 'snapshot' in time so the user review rating may have been lowered since the 'snapshot' was taken, so can't say for certain or have as much confidence as one would like.Regardless of the property, it does sounds like a good one with a high tripadvisor rating. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know whatever you decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help. jersguitar Posted August 3, 2009 Author Report Posted August 3, 2009 Started bidding for a 4* for these dates at $81, and nudged it up by $10 a day until $111 was accepted last night. Taxes & Fees were $62.25 for the whole stay. Booked August 2.I noticed on tripadvisor a couple reviews from folks buying with priceline and having good service (even one that mentions the hotel changing the dates of the booking for someone who booked with priceline!) so I expect it should be a relatively good experience.
thereuare Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Congratulations on your success and thank you for sharing your results with the board.Glad to see you're happy with the results and looking forward to trying this property. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your trip! jersguitar Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 Just wanted to leave a follow up, in case others are curious about how the Mangolia responds to priceline bidders...About a week before our stay, I called the Magnolia to request a room with a king or queen size bed, rather than one with two doubles, and mentioned that the stay was to be part of our honeymoon. The person who took my call was very friendly and said that it shouldn't be a problem to get us a room with one bed rather than two. When we arrived, around 6 pm the first day of our stay, we were warmly received by the valet parking who immediately called for assistance for all our bags. We checked in and noticed that our check in envelope (containing our room key cards) was stamped "Complimentary Upgrade". We walked into the room to find a beautifully appointed, spacious corner room with a King sized bed. (The Magnolia has three room types - the basic is the "Superior Room", one up from that are the "Superior Corner Rooms", and finally the "Diamond Level Rooms" on the top 2 floors - ours was of course the Superior Corner Room. Due to its location and buildings around it, not all of the Magnolia's rooms have much to offer for a view, however our room had a great view on to the BC Parliament Building - a great view, especially at night when the Parliament building is lit up!Another thoughtful touch, when we arrived we saw that a small box of chocolates was left for us with a note congratulating us on our marriage. We definitely loved our three night stay, and can say that the Magnolia treats its Priceline customers well!
