robbieb Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Hi - I'm a newbie here but really like this site! I'm looking to book a 4* or above hotel in NYC Aug 14-16, central Manhattan ideally. Budget is $150-200/night.It's fluctuated, but I want to book today and here's what I'm seeing:4* - $142 / MTC / restaurant, business centre, hi-speed internet4*- $149 / Downtown-Soho / fitness centre, pool, restaurant, business centre, hi-speed internet (pretty sure this is the millenium hilton)4* - $163 / Empire State area / business centre (only amenity listed!)4* - *172 / MTE / fitness centre, restaurant, business centre, hi-speed internetWould be willing to do a 3.5* if the value was really good and hotel was OK. Any potential IDs for those, or suggestions?
AaronJB Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Welcome to the site! :)The 4* ESB would be a possible match for the Carlton or Roger Williams, while I'm not quite sure what the 4* MTC may be - the Algonquin would be a possibility, but it could possibly be something else. The 4* MTE would be a likely match for the Omni Berkshire, while the 4* Downtown would likely be the Millennium Hilton.I wouldn't recommend staying downtown, but in terms of that area, I'd rather recommend Gild Hall for $147.20 (minus $10 using the 10JUL coupon = $137.20) via Expedia.com.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
robbieb Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 Thanks for the info! Yes, I was still seeing the MTC / $142 offer with those 3 amenities, so I booked it (via your HOTWIRE link) since that's the area I wanted and it seemed like a good deal. The hotel was "City Club Hotel" on 44th St, which was a surprise since I haven't seen it on any of your 4* lists. Looks like a nice small boutique-ish hotel in a good spot. Unfortunately I've read that the 'petite' rooms (which I'm sure is my default booking) are super-tiny, so I'm going to try to upgrade since I was hoping for a more 'standard' room type. Still a good deal though...
