pizzachopper Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 1 adult and 2 children, need 3.5* or 4* for 8/12-8/18, near subway, near times square but not too touristy, preferably under $100. Is MTW or MTE better? How do I increase my likelihood of getting Sheraton?
pizzachopper Posted August 2, 2009 Author Report Posted August 2, 2009 Bid unsuccessfully for 3 days up to $120 for above areas for 3.5*. Can stretch to $150 but prefer to stay under $130. Is it realistic? would consider 3*. Should I consider 2.5* (budget is more important). Did not add MTE since Millenium UN would be included which seems to be inconvenient. How can I avoid Millenium UN but bid on others in MTE. Any other helpful hints?
pizzachopper Posted August 2, 2009 Author Report Posted August 2, 2009 Considering Hilton EWR (seems to be around $50) and communting to Manhattan for touristy things. How long does it take for PATH train from EWR to TS area? Cost involved? Any other downsides to staying at EWR area and not in the heart of touristy area. Thanks for all your help. Very informative forum!
thereuare Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!First, not sure of the age of your kids, but note that PRICELINE reservations only guarantee double occupancy... you could receive a room with only one bed and no room for a rollaway; would this be an acceptable sitaution? If you were to try for the Hilton Gateway how would you intend to book that paritcular hotel? While that property is convenient for accessing the PATH train to Manhattan, all the other hotels in this area are not (and note that the Hilton is not in a great area either)Let's start with the above and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. pizzachopper Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 Kids are 13 and 17, so will need a queen or king bed and a rollaway. After more research, I realized that Hilton gateway would not be a good option. Would like to try for MTE but want to avoid millenium UN for inconvenience. Attending an event in downtown and one option would be to stay in downtown for 2 days and rest of 4 days in midtown as it seems to be hard to get good price in one hotel for longer stays. Thanks for all the help.
pizzachopper Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 I got Club quarters downtown for 2 night at $110 through PRICELINE link here (queen bed with roll away). I have the option of continuing my stay there for same price or bidding for something in midtown for higher price for rest of dates for touristy things. Is it too inconvenient to be in downtown and commute to mid town for touristy things? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks
yellowdog Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding :) I have the option of continuing my stay there for same price or bidding for something in midtown for higher price for rest of dates for touristy things. thereuare Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Are the dates in the topic title correct and itw as the first two nites that you won? Did you already call the hotel and confirm the rollaway as the Club Quarters typically have somewhat small rooms... they're basic, clean, and functional, but generally not 'luxurious'. Are you 3 or 4 people in total?Regarding extending the stay, although offered your ability to extend the stay is not guarnateed, PRICELINE could:-extend your stay at the same rate-tell you there's no availability for the dates you tried to extend-tell you there's availability but only at a higher price, at which point you'd be able to accept or rejected the higher priced roomAlso, note that you can only extend the stay for up to the same number of nites as your original reservation, so at best you'll only be able to add an additional two nites at this property. As to whether you spend an additional two nites Downtown or not really depends upon your budget, but while it is do-able, it's certainly not as convenient as staying in midtown.Do you fly or drive out of town on the 18th? (if flying, which airport are you leaving from)Let us knw the above and i'll be in a better position to advise on the balance of this stay.PS- as per your screenname, if you're 'into' pizza i can offer some advice in that regard too Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
pizzachopper Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 Club quarters downtown 8/14-8/16 are in the middle of my stay (chose to stay downtown for late night event on Sat there). I called the hotel and roll away is confirmed. Flying in to LGA on 8/12 and flying out from LGA on 8/19. So I need accomodation for 4 additional nights on both sides of dates above. We are 3 people and would be happy with 3* accomodation, budget is more important. We love pizza so any suggestion in that regard will be helpful. Was also thinking of getting NY explorer pass for 7 attractions, is that a good way to go? I enjoyed reading all your helpful tips about NY. Thanks for all your help.
thereuare Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Since you can only extend the stay up to two nites, and you need 4 nites on each side of this stay, i would not recommend trying to extend the stay as it would mean an additional change of hotels. Please start two NEW TOPICs for the balance of your stay (a separate topic for each additional leg of your stay) and we'll continue to help in these newly created threads.NOTE: i've just added a NYC PIZZA thread to the board. While you're downtown, give Adreinne's a try! Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
