lameez Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Hi,I'm looking for a 3* hotel in Manhattan for 18 - 23 August for 2 people (dates are not really flexible). My budget is between $85 and $95 (excluding tax) per night. My basic concern is price, not so much star quality or even area, although I would prefer to stay in a lower star quality hotel located in a more central area. The areas that I least prefer include Brooklyn, Long Island, Queens, (which I guess are technically outside of Manhattan) as well as Harlem. This will be the first time I am NY so I would prefer being more central.I have tried to bid at $85 for 2* hotels in Midtown West, Times Square (high suggested priced hotels even at that star rate), Central Park South, and Madison Square Gardens (lowest suggested priced hotels at that star rate), but I've had no success. These were also two separate bids, so I did not simply re-bid by adding an area. I also just learned that starting at 2* includes higher star ratings in any case, which I didnt know when placing these bids. From reading earlier posts, it seems that there simply are no hotels willing to offer a room at that price. But maybe I also need a better strategy.Could you please suggest a bidding strategy that could get my offer for $85-$95 dollars accepted for the dates mentioned above. I am willing to compromise on area and star quality, as long as the place is clean (no bugs, rooms/bathrooms cleaned daily) and not falling apart (aircon or elevator not working, poor plumbing). So while a 3* hotel would be really nice, I think realistically it is the highest I could get considering the budget I have, if I am lucky. So my criteria in order of importance are price, then area, and finally star quality.Hope there's some good news :) Lameez
thereuare Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! We typically don't recommend the lower star rated hotels in NYC... while there may be some that are fine, there may some which are not, and with PRICELINE (and to some extent HOTWIRE) you can't choose which type it is that you will get.Any chance you can stretch your budget to $128/nite? HOTWIRE hs what appears to be the Murray Hill East Suites which is a budget oriented property but gets very good reviews. If not, let us know exactly which zones (by PRICELINE name) you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a stragey for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
