DerekH Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Just discovered your fantastic site! I'm looking for two rooms over Labor Day weekend (9/4-7), and am still debating between a 4* and 5* but am clear I would like to be on the Strip. Hotwire is showing two 5*, which I assume are the Trump ($136) and the Wynn ($179), one 4.5* ($188), which I'm guessing is Ceasar's, and this one... 4* Central Strip ($142). Can you help?Amenities:CasinoFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-speed Internet AccessSpa Services2.9 miles from airportTripAdvisor 3.5 out of 5 (1920+) (Is this too risky?)Thanks!!!

DerekH Posted August 7, 2009 Author Report Posted August 7, 2009 Hi, again. After the above posts, I watched HOTWIRE for a few days, and things started edging (well, sometimes leaping!) up, so I abandoned Hotwire and tried my luck with PRICELINE, based upon the following needs:My preferred hotels were Treasure Island or the Mirage, both 4* Hotwire hotels, but neither seemed to be listed...If I couldn't get those, I would be okay with the Trump, but I figured I'd get a better price on Priceline -- since Trump seemed to be what was happening in the North Strip (Priceline terms) for the dates in question. If I lucked out on Priceline and got Treasure Island or the Mirage, all the better. If I got "upgraded" to a 5* other than the Trump, even better (but unlikely, I thought).So... my PRICELINE strategy follows (and please move this post if it makes more sense!):On the first day I bid $75, 4*, North Strip. No dice, but counter-offer for $130.Added a non-4* or 5* district, and bid $75. Redirected to retail site.Added another zone without 4* or 5* and bid $80. Another counter for $130.Second day, bid $90 using same strategy. Counter for $130.Bid $100, adding another zone, rejected and redirected to retails offers.bid $110, offered a deal for "only" $22 more. Third night, same strategy, bid $115, counter offer $130.Bid $120, new zone, and bingo: Accepted at the Trump. So I beat the HOTWIRE price for Trump ($139) by $19, which I guess will offset the resort fee! Still, a pretty good deal, I think, considering Labor Day weekend. And of course, I reached Priceline through the BB PRICELINE link! Thanks again for all your help. I'll be back!PS: Please let me know if you would have preferred me to post this follow up in some other way...
