macman Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Curious if you agree with me. I am wanting to try and get the Galveston, Tx Hilton resort for 8/16- 8/19 for 4 rooms and it shows that it is a 3 star on Priceline pins. When I look at Priceline the only other 3 star option is Moody Gardens hotel. Hilton advertises as $99 per night when I want to go and Moody is asking $170. If I bid $50 would you think I have a better chance with the Hilton due to the pricepoint than the Moody Gardens hotel. I don't see any other 3 star hotels listed other than theses two. How would you bid?
AaronJB Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 There is no guarantee which hotel may come up when bidding - a previously unreported property could also come up, as well. What would be your max bid per night? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
macman Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 Since I see the Hilton is offering $75 rates I would just working below that starting at $50.
thereuare Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Retail pricing actually has very little to do with determing which hotel you will likely receive, so unless you're willing to accept any 3* hotel or higher (as PRICELINE can always upgrade you to a higher star level hotel) i woudln't use PRICELINE.If you're' flexible in the hotel you receive... you have no re-bid zones when bidding 3* in Galveston. With time on your side i'd start at $45 and increaes your bid by $5 every 24 hours. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. macman Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 Can I assume that PRICELINE star ratings are consisitent from their retail to their bidding site. I noticed that in the Texas forum that HOTWIRE has pinned a hotel as a three star and PRICELINE as a two star (Baymont Inn, Galveston) . I want to start bidding at a three star but don't want to get a surprise win with a star hotel.
Romelle Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 The tendency for HOTWIRE star ratings to be higher than PRICELINE ratings is fairly common. Maybe 1/2 a star. A full star is unusual, but possible. There can be changes to hotel ratings over time, so that could also be a factor in the difference you noted. On the other hand, ratings on PRICELINE between their retail and bidding sites should be consistent.
