Hi,

I am staying in NYC for August 13th-16th. I found on Hotwire a 4Star Hotel in the Downtown SoHo area. Amenities include:

fitness

pool

restaurant

business centre

internet

It is for $143 US/night.

Could it be the Millennium Hilton? If so, is this a good area for first time visitors to the city, or is it too far for local attractions? Is this a descent price? Thank you!

Welcome to the site.

This would be a likely match for the Millennium Hilton.

While this is a very good price for this property, the downtown area is generally too far out of the way for most tourists. There are certainly some sights near the downtown area, but the Midtown area would be the most centrally located and is near most of the major attractions.

What would be your budget per night? We could see if we could find something more centrally located.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links when you are ready to book. Thanks.

HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the ESB zone for $162/nite for which my best guess is the Carlton on Madison, a 4* in the MTE zone believed to be either the Omni Berkshire ore the W New York... or slightly over your budget at $173/nite is the very highly rated (top 5 hotel in the city as per Tripadvisor user reviews) Sofitel... keep in mind that negative reviews here may likely be due to expecations based upon the rate paid, which woudln't be such a factor if you're purchasing thru HOTWIRE.

Are any of the above of interest or woudl you want to roll the dice with PRICELINE?

Wow, thank you for your help! After some thinking (and including taxes) -- I am considering going down to a 3.5 star hotel. I found a few in the MTE area, all for about $154 a night. They would likely be (I am guessing) the Doubletree, Roosevelt or the Tudor at the UN. Are these good hotels for the price? Or would you recommend just paying the extra ten bucks a night and going with the Carlton on Madison???

Thanks!!!

and PS: I would prefer to stay with Hotwire, since I am most familiar with it --- unless you think Priceline is worth a shot?

PRICELINE would likely get a cheaper result, but you would not be able to try and make an "educated guess" as to which hotel/s are showing. PRICELINE may be cheaper, but if you would feel more comfortable with the less opaque HOTWIRE, then it may be worth spending a little more to try to get a hotel you may be happier with. The Carlton does seem like a very nice property for a few dollars more, and it has recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.

hi,

I ended up placing a bid with PRICELINE, and I won $130/night US at the Tudor Hotel at the United Nations. Reviews are quite good, I hope it will be a great stay! Hotwire is selling this hotel (and Doubletree, Roosevelt, all 3.5*) for around 150$ a night.

Thank you so much for all your help :)

Congrats on an excellent win! Definitely a very nice discount off regular rates, and I think you'll like this location quite a bit better than if you had stayed in the downtown area.

Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE link to start your purchase and reporting your results.

Enjoy your stay
