redletterruth Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Hi there Please help me ID this hotel and give me any info you can... AmenitiesFitness Restaurant Business OfficeWireless Thanks! Redletterruth
thereuare Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! These amenities are quite common, especially in large cities, and this amenity combnation has been know to be associated with the Allterton Crowne Plaza, Drake, Millenium Knickerbocker, and Westin Michigain Ave... so any of these would be among the likely possibilities. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. redletterruth Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 Hi. thanks for your previous help. I'm new to Hotwire and I'm beginning to look for a hotel around $125 or less in Magnificent Mile Streeterville or thereabouts. There is a 4* $118 in N Michigan Ave with Fitness room, restaurant, business center, internet that looks like it could be any one of 4 or more hotels (Millenium, Allerton, Drake, Westin) There is a 4* Magnificent Mile- Streeterville $125 with No Smoking, Restaurant, Business Office, and Internet that seems like it might be the Sheraton. Am I correct in my assumptions and would you have a preference? Also, since there is some time before we'll be in Chicago, would it be wiser to wait until closer to 9/26? Thanks for your help! AaronJB Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 The Fall is generally on the pricey side in Chicago, as it's actually a really nice time weather-wise and there are a number of conventions. I'm not seeing the 4* Mag Mile/Streeterville when I search for these dates. My worry about the 4* NMA is that it might be the Allerton, which is a so-so property whose full price for these dates is not much more than the HOTWIRE listing price. The Millennium Knickerbocker, Drake and Westin would all be very nice possibilities, but my worry is that - although there's no way to know for sure - this could be the Allerton. So, given the above, my suggestion would be to try PRICELINE.I'd recommend starting with a bid of $90 for a 4* for the River North/North Michigan Ave. area. The Allerton was last reported on PRICELINE as a 3.5* hotel, so unless it has been upgraded since the last reported win, it would not be among the 4* possibilities. Please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchase, and let us know the results or if you have any questions.
redletterruth Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 Thanks for your help. I tried Priceline (using the PRICELINE link on your site) and was unsuccessful at $90. Do I understand correctly that I can try every 24 hours? Thanks!
yellowdog Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 redletterruthYes, you can bid every 24 h period.Do you know how to use your free zones? This is a good link: Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedFeel free to ask if you have any questions.Yellowdog.
thereuare Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 redletterruth,If you let us know which zone(s) you're willing to accept (is the NMA the only one?) and your maximum bid we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow which will utilize your re-bid zones and bid systematically all in one bidding cycle. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. redletterruth Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 HI, Thanks for the responses!NMA is the only zone we really want. Grant Park seems to be a little out of the way. I went to the suggested link and read it. I noticed Midway has no 4 star hotels (if I'm reading this right). Can I safely rebid adding Midway with 4 star minimum and be assured of NOT getting Midway? My max bid is $120 though I'd hate to have to pay that. Any other tips? Thanks!
thereuare Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 yes, Midway is currently a re-bid zone when bidding for a 4* hotel in Chicago, but you actually have FOUR such re-bid zones.. are able to indentify them all (and wish to confirm them with the board) as any strategy we use will attempt to use all of them. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. redletterruth Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 Four rebid zones? Skokie, Midway,,,,and??thanks!
thereuare Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 You need to know how to determine your re-bid zones on your own, as they can change at any time, and therefore must be checked before the start of every bidding cycle, otherwise you run the chance of ending up in an area you didn't intend.Have you read thru Priceline Re-Bidding Explained? If so and you're confused, please list each zone within Chicago and the highest star rating available in each zone, using the following method:The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a PRICELINE page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)Any questions feel free to ask. If you're still confused just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Wow! You lucked out with this win! This is a terrific property, and quite a rare sight on PRICELINE or HOTWIRE (actually, I don't believe it's ever been won on HOTWIRE.) Nice location, as well, right on the river.Thank you for reporting your win and congrats on quite a successful bid. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions at all about the city.Using the site's PRICELINE link to start your purchase is greatly appreciated.Enjoy your stay.
