hitmanhatton Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 Hi, first off thanks for all the info on here, what a great site!i am looking for a 4* in either times square or central park south, for 19 september - 24 september 2009.i started bidding through priceline.co.uk at
AaronJB Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)Are there any other areas of interest? Have you bid for MTW?Unfortunately, the second half of September seems quite expensive in NYC, and while it's generally not good to compare since rates are date-specific and you may be successful for a different price, another user has reported trying to bid for 9/20-22 for a 4* in TS and has been unsuccessful up to $245. While I'm not saying that you may have to head that high since you have a different set of dates and are trying for more than just TS, I do think you will definitely have to head over $200, and possibly well over $200.What would be your max budget per night? Is a 4* a must, or would you be willing to consider less expensive 3*/3.5* ideas? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.
hitmanhatton Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 Hi, thanks for the quick reply and advice.having done some more research, i think im going to go for 3* central park south, from the priceline hotel lists, it looks as though it would most likely be the park central hotel, as that is the only 3*. and it has good reviews.im just not sure where to start bidding, im thinking around $170. however i wouldnt want to go a huge amount over that, maybe up to $220, is that realistic? Thanks, James.
AaronJB Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 You could possibly get "upgraded" to any of the 3.5*'s in the area if you do bid 3* CPS. If you do really want to bid 3* CPS, I'd start lower - $135-140 - and then work up from there. Is there any reason why you do not want to try 3*/3.5* TS?Please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links. Thank you.
hitmanhatton Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 Thanks, yeah, 3.5* times square does look a very good option from the hotels listed, would you recommend starting at the same price?
thereuare Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 If price is a factor, which it usually is, i'd suggest choosing all acceptable zones and increase your bid amount as your add re-bid zones, this way you let the one with the least expensive price accept your bid.If you let us know which zone(s), minimum star rating, and maximum bid you decide upon we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. One comment regarding if you choose to bid the 3.5* level or less in MTE, this area includes the Millennium UN, which is a good hotel and gets very good reviews... but it is a bit far east (10-15 minute walk to the subway) so just make sure you're ok with the location before including this option in your bidding. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. hitmanhatton Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 thanks again,ok, i would like to be in times square area, 3.5* minimum, with a budget of $230, a strategy would be much appreciated. Thanks, James.
thereuare Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 Be sure to read our thougths on Hotels Near Times Square before you bid as i think bidding just this one zone will ultimately cost you more than it otherwise would if you included other nearby zones. However, it's your stay and you know best as to what you're looking for from this trip, so if you only want to bid the Times Square zone with a $230 maximumb bid you can try as follows:At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 3.5* Times Square...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Times Square and re-bid zone2...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Times Square and re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Times Square and re-bid zone2 and 3...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180The above may ultmately prove to be too low, but with time on your side, i would try a round of lowball bidding as per above. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Any questions feel free to ask. Good luck and let us konw how it goes. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
