July 26- July 28. I want to be able to walk to Field museum and navy pier, have restaurants nearby. Have stayed at Hyatt Regency. Was okay for convention, not sure I want my kids there. Have also found the Amalfi on Orbitz for 132 with 15 % off. Perhaps I should just go with that? I like the location of Double tree best but the husband is concerned about some of the reviews. Orbitz has some hotels listed at 30% but I can't track down a promotion code for that. Several fit my dates (not during their indicated blackouts) but I don't know what I need to enter to get the discounts.I think I am putting far too much time into this. . . Thanks.
AaronJB Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 If you are coming down from Wisconsin (guessing from the screenname), I'd definitely recommend a stop at the Brat Stop (http://www.bratstop.com/) on the way in.If a hotel is posted as 30% off on Orbitz, then the price should reflect that. If a hotel is on sale on Orbitz for 30% off, then you can (usually, not always) add a promo code (SUMMERVIN *appears* to work for 15% off, for example.)Additionally, with Orbitz, there's this:**Orbitz SPECIAL OFFER**Through 7/26, book any hotel in Chicago and receive a FREE $50 gift certificate from Restaurant.com (Select a hotel and add FREE offer on the add Attractions & Services page). Keep in mind with the Amalfi on Orbitz that a room with 2 beds is moderately more expensive. That's a very, very nice hotel - maybe not the most "kid-friendly" (no pool), but quite nice, and it offers free breakfast. The Doubletree is a very nice hotel, although in terms of comparing regular rate properties, the Amalfi would certainly be the preferred choice - in my opinion - for about the same price (regular rate.)In terms of the HOTWIRE listings you mention above, the 3.5* Mag Mile/Streeterville with fitness, business, restaurant, pool, internet would appear to be a match for the Doubletree. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or Orbitz.com links to start your purchase.
AaronJB Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Additionally - just my 2 cents - I'd much rather recommend the Lincoln Park Zoo (which is free) than Navy Pier. The Pier has very nice views, but is otherwise a tourist trap.

This is what it says on Orbitz: SUMMER SAVER Save 20% on your Stay!!Valid for stay between 06/01/09 - 09/08/09Minimum length of stay requirement - 2 days Black out dates: 08/16/09, 07/21/09, 07/29/09, 07/31/09, 08/02/09, 08/05/09, 08/03/09, 08/07/09, 08/19/09, 08/09/09, 08/06/09, 08/17/09, 08/10/09, 07/28/09, 07/30/09, 08/01/09, 08/18/09, 08/08/09, 07/25/09 Applies on all nights of stay Is this not something that requires a promotional code? The 15% promo is similar. Some have a 30%. Lincoln park zoo was on the agenda, Navy Pier is just to "see", not do. We'll be pretty busy with the CITYPASS ATTRACTIONS. Although a pool would be nice, it seems most hotels charge extra to use it (D-tree- $10 per person/day) so I gave up on having a pool.Thanks.
cheesehead2 Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 A little more info. The Orbitz clip I posted was for Swisshotel. The Amalfi is under a "48 hour sale- 30 % off) but similar format.
