nutella83 Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 I'm going to New York on August 15 - 18 and 19-21 (Not sleeping in the city on the night of Aug. 18th).I want the best value possible since I'm staying so many days!!I'm wondering when would be a good time to bid. Now, or should I wait until one or two weeks before my arrival date? I've seen that the option for 4* for Central Park is not always available, maybe these go by early. Please help me out! Here are my options:Aug 15-18:4-star hotel in Central Park Area, $179Fitness CenterRestaurant(s)Business CenterSpa Services4*Midtown Central, $153Fitness CenterRestaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-Speed Internet AccessAug 19-21:4-star hotel in Central Park Area, $182Fitness CenterRestaurant(s)Business CenterSpa Services4-star hotel in Midtown Central, $133Smoke Free RoomsFitness CenterRestaurant(s)Business CenterHigh-Speed Internet Access
AaronJB Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)8/15-18.4* MTC - This could be a number of different possibilities, as the Royalton, Flatotel, and Helmsley Park Lane have all been reported with this set of amenities.4* CP - This would likely be the Empire.8/19-21:4* CP - Once again, Empire.4* MTC - likely match for the Sheraton NY.Please use the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase. Please post your win for 8/15-18 in this thread, and it would be greatly appreciated if you could post purchase details for 8/19-21 in a new thread. Thank you.
nutella83 Posted July 23, 2009 Author Report Posted July 23, 2009 Thank you very much for helping me out! I've used Hotwire on five trips in the last 2 years. I had all the intention of using it once again since I've had a good experience. Since I'm shopping around for the best deal, I actually went to the hotel's web page and got a better deal than what Hotwire was offering. So obviously, I didn't bid through Hotwire. I went to the Sheraton NY Hotel and Towers web page and the rooms are $20 dollars cheaper per night (with a promotion the had going on). On top of these savings, I have the privilege of a guaranteed king size bed. If I had booked through Hotwire, I would have most likely gotten double beds. (I always call the hotel after bidding and ask for a king size bed but the hotels have never changed this for me. When I ask again at the check-in counter, thev'e always said they have none available)I also have the benefit of accumulating rewards points for my stay which translates to more savings. Also, because of the credit card I used, I have the possibility of a room upgrade (if available) and this room would include complimentary continental breakfast for two. So in the end, it was a much better deal to book through the hotel directly. This is not the case usually, but I guess it was the exception. I'm sorry I couldn't enter bidding results! I most definitely will do so next time. I'd love to contribute with info. to enrich the database. Thanks again!
