Robocat Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Great site!My first attempt at Priceline today was unsuccessful (but once I got the hang of it, it was still kind of fun). Basically, I was hoping for a 4* MTE and, doing the rebidding thing, started at 120, went up to 160, closed the brower and resumed bidding with ESB included and went up to $180. Still no luck. From replies to other posts, I assume my best bet is to give it a rest for a few days. I will then plan to then try again for 4* property for less than $180, adding a few more areas, and see what happens. If this is unsuccessful, I assume I will need to either go up to my $200 limit or begin again, this time looking for 3* or 3.5*.Grateful for any guidance from those with more experience (r u there, thereuare?!) on: - Am I on the right track? How long before I give up bidding at $180 or less and move to my $200 limit for a 4*? and, at that point, do you think I would be better off looking for a 3.5* at a lower price?. - Also, more generally, do Hotwire prices serve as guidance as to the range of Priceline bids that will succeed (e.g if a 3.5 is on Hotwire for $200, would you expect it might be available for, say, $180?). (I had planned to keep an eye on their prices to see if they move up or down over the next week or two.)I realize it is impossible to respond specifically to these questions, but any general thoughts would be most helpful. Thanks again!
AaronJB Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Welcome to the site.I would stop at this level and wait a few days. Based on the rates I'm seeing, you have bid pretty high. Are you okay with other areas of the city? Orbitz has the 4* Le Parker Meridien on a very good sale for $189 for these dates. That's not much more than you've bid. Additionally, coupon code SUMMERVIN appears to work (it may require you purchase using Visa for the coupon code) for 15% off per night. If you were successful with the coupon, this would work out to be about $160 and change per night, which would be a superb deal.Beyond that, the "superior city view" rooms appear to be priced the same as the regular room @ $189.Please use the site's Orbitz.com, PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchase.
Robocat Posted July 21, 2009 Author Report Posted July 21, 2009 Thanks so much for the quick reply.I had previously looked at the Orbitz lists, but somehow missed the Parker Meridien. The coupon code also works. So I have booked a "superior" room at $189, less than anything currently showing up on HOTWIRE for 4* in this zone or my Priceline bids, and the coupon covers most of the taxes! You guys are great!!!!
thereuare Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Glad you found something which works well for your needs and that the board was able to help.Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
