We're looking for a 3.5* to 4* in NYC.

As far as I read the neighbourhoods having 3.5* and 4* available are all okay (not looking for hotels in Brooklyn or Long Island City when using 3.5*), so we don't really bother (or should we?).

Prices seem to be higher than almost everything I've seen on this board as I had no success bidding $150 to $160 for 3.5*. Hotwire prices are also very high.

If I won't have success within the next days, I will start bidding on 3* as well...

Do you think it's just too early to succeed?

Many thanks!

Btw. just won a bid on the Hilton in San Francisco two weeks earlier and will post the result in the other section. Haven't used this site before, if I had, i would have used the referral link. Using it for NYC now ofc. :)

September is generally a very busy/expensive time in NYC, and this year unfortunately does not seem any different. While you could wait to see if prices drop, you risk them getting worse.

What would be your budget per night for hotel?

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.

Thanks for the fast reply.

Since we already have been two weeks at the west coast by the time we arrive at NYC I would like to keep the rates per night as low as possible :)

I was hoping to have success at $160 and will think about it twice before moving to $180 or higher. What would you suggest?

Another option would be to go down to 3* - I guess the hotels at that rating should be fine too, right?

Thanks! :)

Have you ever been to NYC before?

Would you consider staying in Jersey City (NJ) where you could catch the PATH train to NYC (midtown ~15 minutes) and get a very nice hotel (such as the Westin in Jersey City for well within your budget.

While the price is right, the downside is that you 'commute' to NYC and lose the "NYC vibe" which comes with staying directly in the city... if you've been to the city multiple times and know the "feel" i'm refering to, then perhaps not such a bit deal.. but if it's your first time to Manhattan you'll have to think twice between price vs. convenience.

We haven't been in NYC before so I really would like to get to know the "NYC vibe" :)

I have found another hotel on booking.com thats on the UWS that seems more attractive when it comes to the price. I guess I will book that and keep an eye on HOTWIRE to eventually bid again later on via PRICELINE since I can cancel the reservation on booking.com anytime.

Thanks so far, I will report back if I should have success.
